The story of the life of a tailor who is the “dresser” of Imam Hossein’s funeral

According to the reporter of Fars News Agency Radio and Television, the documentary “I am not a tailor” directed by Said Jamtabi Hosseini is present at the 7th Documentary Television Festival and was broadcast for the first time on Sima TV and Documentary Channel. This documentary is the life story of Asadullah Maryamabadi, a veteran Yazdi tailor whose main job is “embroidery”.

For more than 50 years, Haj Asadollah Maryamabadi has made the profession of embroidering cloths for the mourning tent of Imam Hussain (AS), a profession that his sons and grandsons have continued.

The director of “I am not a tailor” said about the subject of this documentary: This documentary is a different story about the life of Haj Asadollah Maryamabadi, an experienced Yazdi tailor who is famous for sewing “Posh”. “Push” is a big tent that is installed on the big tekiyas and hosseiniyehs in the mourning gatherings of Imam Hossein, peace be upon him, and the mourners hold ceremonies under its shadow.

Referring to the art of “Posh Dozi” he said: Posh Dozi is one of the traditional arts that is very popular in Yazd. From the point of view of work, it is a very difficult job and must be done in a group, but from the point of view of aesthetics, it has a spectacular visual effect, and in this sense, it is known as a kind of intangible heritage.

Referring to the life story of his subject, this documentary maker said: Haj Asadollah Maryamabadi’s life had many ups and downs and at first he was a tailor, but he did not like this job. An incident in his life makes him develop strange beliefs about this issue and devote his entire career to embroidery. He is now considered one of the well-known people in this profession and he is proud of his job.

He said about the production process of this documentary: This documentary has a poetic approach. In fact, we were not looking to talk about the embroidery and describe the details of its sewing, but we were looking for the spiritual feeling of Haj Asadullah and the holding of Imam Hussain’s mourning gatherings under these cloths.

Hosseini noted: This documentary was filmed in Yazd province; In a part of the documentary, we show the ritual of raising the veil, which is a spectacular event. In addition, we filmed several sessions in Haj Asadullah’s workshop.
