The story of the Olympic champion’s devotion to Imam Muhammad Baqir (AS)/ the story of the old woman who fanned the pilgrims!

According to Fars News Agency’s Radio and TV reporter, Javad Foroughi appeared on the “Sign of Devotion” program yesterday, 13 Shahrivar, and talked about his childhood memories of Muharram days. Foroughi believes that the rituals of baking vows and such ceremonies should be preserved, and if we also collect garbage for Imam Hossein (AS), it is worth it. He also says that if he was present during Ashura, he would have helped in doing things like providing water. In the following, you will read parts of his statements.
The memory of the first encounter with Imam Hussain (peace be upon him).
At the beginning of the program, Javad Foroughi said about his first encounter with Imam Hussein (a.s.): “After the war, we had moved to the village of Zahedani. Because the village was small, there was no team in that sense and most of the very small groups that were women were seen. I remember that there were 10 women in every alley who were standing together and one of them was singing a lament and beating their breasts in Arabic style. Over time, these mourners realized why they gather together and beat their chests and cry. Also, being with the mourners is a good memory for me that I can be proud of.”
The gold medalist in the 2020 Olympics explained about the traditions he remembers from that time: “The outstanding ceremony that I remember is Ta’zia, which was performed in the form of a very big show in Abdanan city. Ta’ziyeh was usually held in the same square so that the crowd could be together. “Those tazeeze and places have remained well in my mind.”
Foroughi also said about the laments of his childhood: “The lament that I remember well is Ashura night or Eid al-Adha, and I only remember this part of it. Due to the fact that Kurds and Arabs were present in our city, sometimes the laments were combined in groups, or a Kurdish group or an Arab group sang laments. A person owned a grocery store and I was 12 years old at that time, and we helped him to bake nazri. I also wanted to help and show myself as a man. I hope that these customs will last and prosper.”
In response to the question of how he passes these customs on to his children, he explained: “For example, during Muharram, my son and I used to go to Hayat and he would help during the distribution of tea and he would do these things with enthusiasm. He used to collect glasses and enthusiastically talk to his mother about what he had done. I have told my son several times that if you collect garbage for Imam Hussain (AS), it is worth it.”
Special devotion to Imam Muhammad Baqir (peace be upon him)
Foroughi said about which of the Ahl al-Bayt he has a closer relationship with: “Imam Hussein (AS) has his own special place. But from the aspect of shooting and sports, I feel closer to Imam Muhammad Baqir (AS). You must have heard the story of their shooting, and that is why they have a special place for me.”
He also explained in response to the question that he would like to be in which scene of Ashura, “Honestly, it didn’t matter to me where I was. Of course, it is very difficult to be in a position. Because some time after the incident, some people said that they wished we were with Imam Hussain (AS). If I say that I wish I was with Imam Hussain (AS), it might be nothing more than a slogan. But I always really wanted to be there. But I haven’t thought about where to be. For example, I would like to be present in providing water, removing thorns from children’s feet, fencing or throwing bows, etc.”
An old woman who blows pilgrims
Foroughi explained what he would like to do for Imam Hussain (a.s.): “I really like to serve the mourners and pilgrims of Imam Hussain (a.s.). But my specialty is in treatment, and if I can serve any loved one who is a pilgrim of Imam Hussain (AS), I will do so with pride. Also, ordinary people who I clean the dirt under their feet. “Once I saw an old woman holding a piece of cardboard and waving it proudly as pilgrims passed by.”
A member of the treatment staff of Baqiyatullah Hospital, in response to the question that if one day Imam Hussain (a.s.) puts his hand on his shoulder and says, “I am pleased with you,” he said: “It is like the concept of a peak, which is so high that I might say thinking about It is hard but its sweetness can be understood. If one sees this scene and dies of pleasure, one should not blame him. Talking about this topic gives me a good feeling, let alone hearing this sentence from each of the imams.”
Foroughi also said at the end of the program: “In these days, let’s think about the sick and pray for them.” Also, if it is in our power, we should help them financially, spiritually and spiritually. If there are orphans around us, we should help them with the intention of orphans after Ashura. Human life is poured like oil, it is better to make a vow to Hazrat Abbas (AS). Therefore, when we are all going to die, it is better to die in a good way.”
“Nashan Eradat” produced by Pouyan Hedayati, performed by Hossein Mattolyan and directed by Mohammad Ali Bai airs from Saturday to Wednesday at around 17:15 on Channel 2 and will be repeated around 24:00 on the same day.
