Getting to know Fahima Rastkar since Peter Brook’s visit to Iran

Later, Sadruddin Zahid, a theater teacher and researcher, said: My first acquaintance with Fahima Rastkar dates back to the 50s, when Peter Brook came to Iran. At that time, Brooke was asked to present his experiences in a practical format. The only condition that Iran made for Brooke at that time was to use Iranian actors and artists to organize her experience, Brooke accepted and cooperation was announced with the theater workshop, University of Tehran and Mr. Sayad’s group and various groups.

He added: A call to participate in this collaboration with Brooke was announced, and I was also in the show workshop and went to participate in this experience. He had choices among artists; Reza Karam Rezaei and Fahima Rastkar were among them. Parviz Pourhosseini, Dariush Farhang, and I were there, and there were about 18 of us when we started rehearsing, and this was my first close acquaintance with Ms. Rastkar because I knew her from afar and had seen her shows. What was strange for me was that he, who was the star of our time, although he was older and more experienced than us, but he was so patient that there was no feeling of distance at all and he did all the exercises with us.

The unique performances of Fahima Rastkar in dubbing

Abolhassan Tahami, the director of dubbing and a veteran of the dubbing field, also said: Fahima Rastkar is one of the veterans and relics of dubbing. My acquaintance with him starts from the theater where I started my career in 1336.

He added: Mrs. Rastkar also had an experience with Hoshang Latifpour in the dubbing of the movie Othello and spoke instead of Desdemona, which I think was dubbed in 1334, went to Russia for technical work and was shown a year or two later.

Tahami clarified: Rastkar’s successful works were mostly in the field of typical roles. In Italy, he spoke instead of Sophia Loren, but in Iran, this work model was not widely followed. Among the collaborations that I can be proud of was the movie “Lion in Winter” where Rastkar spoke instead of Katharine Hepburn and it was a very unique performance.

Stating that the daily work of dubbing had made us a family, he reminded about the capabilities of the actor: He knew Italian and French very well, and as a result, he played the roles very well. He said many prominent and difficult roles.

Dubbing in Italy was easier because there was more equipment, in Iran, music and effects were recorded along with the dubbing, which made our work more difficult.

Iraj Parsinejad, Ph.D. in Comparative Literature, was the next speaker of the ceremony who said: Fahima Rastkar truly lived up to her name because she was a person of understanding and a person of truth and honesty. I was not a theater person at that time, but I loved watching theater. I had a meeting with Iraj Gergin, Ali Nasirian, Bijan Mofid, Siros Ebrahimzadeh, etc. Fahima loved theater and went to an acting school since she was a teenage girl. Fahima was a free woman who did not fit into the mold of ideology.
