This American action brought the reaction of the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Tehran requested the International Maritime Organization to intervene in this decision of the Greek court.
Following Iran’s protests, a Greek regional court ordered the return of the seized oil to Iran on June 9, but a few days later a new court temporarily ordered the return of the seized oil to Iran following a request from a Greek spare parts company that demanded money. To provide special services to this tanker, the departure of this tanker was prohibited.
On June 19, three knowledgeable sources reported that a court in Greece overturned an initial court ruling that authorized the United States to seize a portion of Iran’s oil cargo in an Iranian tanker along the Greek coast.
According to this report, according to a diplomatic source, the repayment of the debt to the tugboat company has also been done, and Athens has expressed hope that following the release of this oil tanker, the two Greek oil tankers seized in the waters of the Persian Gulf will also be released.
Referring to the annulment of Iran’s oil confiscation order by the Greek Court of Appeal, the Iranian Embassy in Athens announced that the issue will remain on the agenda of intensive consultations between the two countries until the full implementation of the order is ensured.
After the Greek government tried to seize the oil tanker carrying Iranian oil in the country’s waters and imagine its cargo at the request of the United States and transfer it to another tanker, on Friday night, the 6th of June, the general public relations of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced in an announcement: Today (Friday) it seized 2 Greek oil tankers due to the violations committed in the blue waters of the Persian Gulf. These two ships have been seized in the Persian Gulf, one near Asaluyeh and the other near Bandarlange near Hondurabi Island. Both ships named Prudent Warrior and Delta Poseidon were sailing under the Greek flag and were seized by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.
On June 30, Khatibzadeh added in a weekly meeting with reporters about the latest status of the two Greek oil tankers seized in Iran and the status of the seized Iranian oil cargo in Greece: “The legal proceedings of the Greek oil tankers are being carried out on the spot.” The Greek government, through its lawyers, has tried to prepare the documents for the process of releasing the ships. We advised the Greek government to make the necessary use of Iran’s legal capacities, and I am confident that it will follow its own legal and judicial path. We hope to witness the release of the oil cargo belonging to Iran in practice, and I am sure that the path we will take is to maintain bilateral relations and be immune from the third factor in which America plays a prominent role in all of them.
