The Taliban are appointing new diplomats to Afghan embassies

The Taliban have announced that new figures will soon be appointed to Afghan missions abroad.

The deputy Taliban spokesman said that most of Afghanistan’s missions in the world are now headed by diplomats from the previous government, and that Kabul is in contact with its embassies.

“Activities will improve in the near future and new people will be introduced to embassies and consulates,” added Enamullah Samangani, the Taliban’s deputy spokesman.

But a number of former diplomats say changes to Afghan missions in other countries are impossible before the new government is recognized.

Although more than 10 countries have their embassies in Kabul, the Taliban have so far introduced new diplomats only for the Afghan embassy in Islamabad.
