The Taliban did not agree with the American plan to deposit Afghanistan’s foreign exchange reserves to a Swiss bank

According to IRNA’s report on Wednesday from the President’s News Agency; The Taliban official, whose name was not mentioned, said in an interview with Turkish state television that they want to transfer the country’s foreign exchange reserves to the Central Bank of Afghanistan.
He further added: “We are against transferring this money to another account and our financial resources should be transferred to the account of the Central Bank of Afghanistan.”
This central bank official also noted that the central bank agrees with the US request to establish a monitoring system to access these funds.
This is despite the fact that earlier, Turkish state television, citing its sources, reported that Washington wants to hand over 3.5 billion dollars from the Central Bank of Afghanistan to the Swiss bank BIS based on a plan.
According to these sources, access to this money will be possible within the framework of an impartial monitoring system under the supervision of a delegation of international experts.
The US State Department has not commented on this matter.
The United States blocked the foreign exchange reserves of the Afghan government after the Taliban took control of the country in August 2021. In February, US President Joe Biden signed an executive order agreeing to divide $7 billion of Afghan assets into a humanitarian fund and pay compensation to the families of victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
