The UN General Assembly called for immediate support for countries affected by the food crisis

According to IRNA, the UN website in a resolution entitled “Global Food Insecurity Situation”, which was adopted without a vote on Monday, supported the Secretary-General’s plan to form a Global Crisis Response Team on food, energy and financial issues.

The resolution called on member states and other stakeholders to maintain the efficiency of food and agricultural chains, and stressed the need to maintain trade channels and open markets for the flow of food, fuel, chemical fertilizers and other agricultural products.

Other sections of the resolution call on the international community, including the G7 and the G20, to put food security at the forefront of their agenda and to support multilateral efforts to find cost-effective solutions to the crisis.

The text also urges member states and stakeholders to refrain from hoarding food and goods.

The Ukrainian envoy noted that his country is a credible contributor to world food supply, but that Russia’s attack has exacerbated the food crisis, which has not been exacerbated by the Corona epidemic.

The EU’s representative to the Assembly, who has an oversight role, stressed that the sanctions were deliberately imposed to prevent damage to the agricultural sector. Emphasizing the impact of hunger on climate change, he stressed that Russia’s war against Ukraine has damaged food security.

A number of delegations, including from Argentina, Switzerland, Brazil, Tunisia and Egypt, reaffirmed their commitment to resolving the global food crisis through multilateral cooperation.

World Food Program (WFP) President David Beazley has previously stated that the failure to reopen ports in Ukraine would be a declaration of war on global food security, leading to famine instability as well as migration.

Russia’s foreign ministry has denied the allegations in a statement issued Friday stating “Similar, baseless allegations concerning Russia’s foreign policy have been made more than once.
