The United States has announced the arrest of an “Egyptian spy.”

The US Department of Justice has announced the arrest of an Egyptian spy in New York who was spying on opponents of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, according to Fars News Agency International Group.

According to the Middle East Monitor, the Egyptian spy is an Egyptian-American dual citizen and his identity has been announced as “Pierre Georges”, 39 years old. He is accused of illegal actions in favor of the Egyptian government and the unregistered agent of Egypt on American soil.

The US Department of Justice said in a statement that Pierre Georges had sought to intercept and gather information from political opponents of Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on the orders of Egyptian authorities and had sent information from al-Sisi’s opponents to Egypt.

Georges has also arranged to meet with Egyptian officials, including law enforcement officials in the United States.

According to the report, coded messages between Georges and Egyptian officials indicate that he was in contact with more than one Egyptian organization between 2014 and 2019 to gather information.

Georges’s main charge is operating a foreign government without registering with the Department of Justice.
