The United States has suspended talks with the Taliban over the suspension of girls’ education

“Their decision is a profoundly disappointing and inexplicable change in the Taliban’s commitment to the people of Afghanistan as well as to the international community,” a State Department spokeswoman told IRNA on Saturday morning.

He added: “We have canceled some of our contacts with the Taliban, including the scheduled meetings in Doha, and we have explicitly stated that we consider this decision as an important change in our interactions with the Taliban.”

The meeting between the US and Taliban officials was scheduled to take place on the sidelines of a conference on Saturday and Sunday in Doha, Qatar, three informed officials said.

According to IRNA, the foreign ministers of the United States, Britain, Canada, France, Italy, Norway and the European Union’s foreign policy chief issued a joint statement warning that the Taliban’s decision not to reopen girls’ high schools in Afghanistan would inevitably have an impact on international support for Afghanistan. .

The Taliban’s new decision not to reopen girls’ high schools in Afghanistan has provoked widespread reactions. The Taliban government withdrew its stance on Wednesday, two days after announcing that all schools, including girls ‘schools, would reopen in Afghanistan, and announced that girls’ high schools would be closed until “further notice”.

The Taliban Ministry of Education said in a new statement that the schools would be reopened after a decision was made on the uniforms of female students and teachers in accordance with “Afghanistan’s Sharia and Traditional Law”.
