The US representative is going to Lebanon to negotiate the demarcation of the sea border

According to IRNA on Saturday, the US State Department announced that Washington will send a representative to Lebanon this week to discuss the energy crisis.

The ministry added in a statement that Amos Hokstein, the State Department’s top adviser on energy security, will be in Lebanon on June 13-14 (June 23 and 24). In October 2020, Washington began mediating indirect talks between the Zionist regime and Lebanon over the disputed maritime border in the Mediterranean.

“The US Government welcomes the consultative spirit of the parties to reach a final decision, one that has the potential to bring greater stability, security and prosperity to Lebanon and Israel, as well as to the region,” the statement said.

The 1430-square-kilometer Karish oil field is located on the 29th border line between occupied Lebanon and Palestine. Lebanon says a large part of the oil field is within its borders, while the Zionist regime claims that the entire region is under its so-called “rule”.

In a recent letter to the United Nations on negotiations for the demarcation of a common border with Israel, Lebanon called for the designation of Line 29 instead of Line 23 (360 square kilometers), thus increasing the area between the two sides to 1,430 square kilometers.

The case for the indirect talks in Lebanon was handled by Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. The talks stalled in May 2021 (May-June 1400), after Lebanon submitted new plans to consolidate its right to a water border.
