The World Bank published the Government Efficiency Index from 1996 to 2020


The World Bank considers the efficiency (effectiveness) index of the government in providing the quality of public services, the quality of civil services and its degree of independence from political pressures, the quality of policy formulation and the level of credit and commitment of the government to implement policies, this index is a subset of global governance indicators.

This report has measured the efficiency of each government based on indicators from negative 2.5 to positive 2.5. The higher the score of the government in this field, the more efficient the respective government is.

The World Bank has reviewed the efficiency of Iran’s past governments from 1996 (1375) to 2020 (1399), the lowest score of which is the twelfth government in 2020.

The efficiency score of the 12th government in 2020 (1399) has been determined to be close to minus 1, which is the lowest score recorded for all Iranian governments since 1996 (1375). Before that, the lowest efficiency score was in 2013 (1392) with minus 0.7.

While the record of inefficiency in the previous government has been broken in 2020, and in the years before that, the performance of this government had strong ups and downs. This government has improved from minus 0.7 in 2013 to minus 0.4 in 2014 and minus 0.2 in 2015.

But in the next two years, i.e. 2016 and 2017, we have witnessed the previous government’s efficiency drop and the negative score of 0.2 for this government remained constant.

Since 2018 (2018), the efficiency of the previous government has started to decline. In 2018, the efficiency score of this government decreased to minus 0.4, in 2019 to minus 0.6, and in 2020 to minus 1.

In 2013, when the 11th government started its activity, Iran was ranked 151st in the world in terms of government efficiency, but in 2020, i.e. one year before the end of the previous government’s activity, the efficiency rank of the Iranian government has been announced as 178th, which is a drop of 27 places. it shows.

According to this report, Singapore had the most efficient government in 2020, and the efficiency score of the Singapore government this year was set at 2.33 points. Switzerland with a score of 2.02 and Finland with a score of 1.94 units have taken the second and third places respectively. Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Andorra, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland are also ranked 4th through 10th.

South Sudan is ranked 209 with a negative score of 2.34 and is known as the most ineffective government.
