The Lumière Festival presents the 14th Lumière Award to Tim Burton to honor him for his influence in cinema.

This celebration, which is held in October under the chairmanship of Thierry Fermo – the director of the Cannes Festival, has been awarded in previous years by Jane Campion, the Darden brothers, Francis Ford Coppola, Quentin Tarantino, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, Jane Fonda, Wong Kar Wai. , Catherine Deneuve, Pedro Almador, Gerard Depardieu and Milos Forman.
In a statement, the Lumière Festival said that it admires Breton for his skillful personal expression with his lyrical style and visual references that span the entire history of art, from gothic, baroque, comedy, horror, romanticism or melancholic coloring.
Tim Burton will be present in Lyon from October 20 to 23 (October 28 to November 1) and will receive his award at a ceremony held on October 21. A number of his iconic films including “Big Fish”, “Beetlejuice”, “Edward Scissorhands” and “Alice in Wonderland” will be shown in this festival.
The Lumiere Prize was created by the Lumiere Institute in France in 2009 and its director is Thierry Fermo. With the death of the late Bertrand Tavernier, Irene Jacob has been its president since last year.
Last year, this festival, which is held in Lyon, Lumiere’s hometown, hosted figures such as Paolo Sorrentino, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ted Sarandos, CEO of Netflix, Rossi De Palma, etc. This festival also has a special market for international classic films.
63-year-old Tim Burton last sat in the director’s chair with the adaptation of “Dumbo” from Disney animation in 2019.
