With the upcoming update of Google’s Find My Device program, users will be able to track the phone’s location without the need for an internet connection.

Google’s “Find My Device” app is getting a big update soon. Thanks to this update, even if your smartphone is not connected to the Internet, this technology giant can track the location of the device. This feature can be downloaded and used for both Android and iOS platforms.

Using Find My Device, you can find your Android phone if it is lost or stolen. In addition, in the mentioned conditions, it is possible to lock the phone or even remotely reset it using this program. However, at the moment, you can only use the mentioned features if you are connected to the Internet, although this situation will change soon.

Track phone location without internet

The note attached to the recent Find My Device update in December 2022 states:

Find My Device now offers the latest encrypted location reporting for Android devices, using a new privacy-focused framework.

Thanks to this new function, even when the phone is not connected to the Internet, its location can be tracked. Specifically, with this feature, even when your phone is not connected to the Internet, it will be possible to track the location of the device through Bluetooth-enabled devices located in the vicinity. Also, all data is encrypted and except for Google, the phones used in this network will not be informed of the location of the Android smartphone.

It is currently unclear when this feature will be available, as Google has not mentioned releasing any other updates. Also, according to some speculations, this update may be released in the form of a new feature for Android 14, in late 2023.
