UN Reporter: “Permanent occupation” of Palestinian territory is the root of all violence

The Commission of Inquiry into the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem, has submitted its first report to the UN Human Rights Council, according to IRNA, the official website of the United Nations.

The report of this three-member commission, which was formed in May, attracted a lot of attention and offended many supporters of the Zionist regime, who consider these findings to be biased.

The commission’s chairman, Navi Pillay, told the UN Human Rights Council that decades of forced displacement, destruction and the siege of Gaza had contributed to cycles of violence. He said this had created a sense of hopelessness and despair among Palestinians in the occupied territories, as well as among the Israeli people.

He stressed that the successive governments of the Zionist regime have consistently adopted policies to establish full control over the entire occupied territories of Palestine and the Golan Heights. The occupying Zionist regime has occupied the region since occupying the Golan Heights from Syria in the Middle East War in 1967.

According to the United Nations, the leaders of the Zionist regime, by boycotting the meeting of this commission of inquiry, expressed their anger towards its investigation. Many members of the UN Human Rights Council endorsed the report and expressed their support for the Palestinian position.

In his report, Pillay blamed the continued use of force on the excessive use of force by Israeli security forces. He stressed that the Zionist regime has engaged in widespread hostility against the Palestinians with impunity. He said impunity has increased dissatisfaction and mistrust and jeopardized the chances of achieving lasting peace.

“Policies of occupation, expropriation and discrimination can only escalate into more hatred and violence. These acts of violence can lead to endless cycles of conflict on both sides,” he added.

The three-member UN delegation acknowledged its regret that the Zionist regime refused to cooperate with the commission’s investigation. The statement said that the Zionist regime refused to allow the commission access to the Occupied Territories and Palestine to interview people and gather information.
