The Secretary General of the United Nations added: Unfortunately, poverty and inequality continue to spread and the global financial system punishes developing countries and hinders their progress.

Referring to climate change, Guterres warned: These changes will literally set our planet on fire.

Referring to his recent visit to Pakistan, the senior UN official also said that the suffering of the flood-affected people of Pakistan is unimaginable.

In another part of his speech, the UN Secretary General appreciated the efforts of Abdullah Shahid, President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, and stated that Mr. Abdullah Shahid, with his many skills, led the assembly in this unprecedented period, and his support was very valuable.

Martin Griffiths, head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said on Monday local time, warning of the spread of hunger and famine in the world: “We have lost a lot of time to prevent a food crisis.”

Griffiths, who spoke at the UN meeting on fighting food insecurity and preventing famine, said: “We have learned lessons in this field, but we have not used them.”

This UN official added: “We lost a lot of time in the areas that are severely affected by the lack of food security.” Now we need a billion dollars to deal with the current threats.

Griffiths warned that the threat of famine in Somalia is reminiscent of 2011: “In several regions of the world, our efforts to combat food insecurity have failed.” Currently, compared to five years ago, the number of victims of hunger has increased tenfold.
