UN Secretary General: The departure of the first grain ship from Ukraine is an important starting point

The Secretary General of the United Nations said: “The departure of this ship is a great collective achievement of the Joint Coordination Center, which was established last week in Istanbul under the supervision of the United Nations with representatives from Ukraine, Russia and Turkey.”

He emphasized: This will be the first of many commercial ships that will return peace and stability to the global food markets. The Black Sea Grain Initiative enables significant volumes of exports from three Ukrainian ports, including Odessa, Chornomorsk and Yevgeny.

He stated that this agreement, along with facilitating the unhindered delivery of Russian food products and chemical fertilizers to the market, will bring peace and stability to the global food markets and help to deal with the global food crisis.

The Secretary General of the United Nations continued: The World Food Program is looking to purchase, load and initially ship 30,000 tons of wheat outside of Ukraine on a ship leased by the United Nations.

After a few months of stopping the export of Ukrainian grain due to the war, the country’s first grain ship left Odessa port for Lebanon this morning (Monday).

According to IRNA, the Ministry of Defense of Turkey announced that this cargo is the first ship after the beginning of the crisis in Ukraine. It is carrying corn and at 8:30 am this Monday local time, it left the port of “Odesa” in Ukraine towards Lebanon.

The Ministry of Defense of Turkey wrote in a statement: It was agreed that the ship “Razoni” carrying corn under the flag of “Sierra Leone” will leave Odessa port for Lebanon at 08:30 local time.

The Razoni ship, which was built in 1996, is 186 meters long and 25 meters wide, and can carry 30,000 tons of grain.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense added that other ships will also start moving “along the sea lines” after completing the loading process.

The Ministers of Defense of Russia and Turkey and the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine last July 31 during a meeting in Istanbul with the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres regarding “safe transportation and export of grains and food” from the ports of Ukraine” signed an agreement.

This agreement guarantees the export of grain stored in Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea to the whole world.

The grain export agreement is for 120 days, and the Ukrainian authorities promised to provide the conditions for its implementation within 10 days.
