Uncertainty of millions of tons of grain in Ukraine

“Millions of tons of grain have remained unresolved in Ukraine due to the ongoing military conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the lack of a safe transportation route in Ukrainian ports,” a UN official was quoted as saying by Fars News Agency’s International Economics Group.
“Currently, there are about 4.5 million tonnes of grain in ports and on ships, and it is not possible to use it,” said Martin Frick, director of the German section of the UN World Food Program.
He stressed that the world now needs Ukrainian food products and the arrival of shipments from Ukraine is essential to help resolve the global food crisis.
Ukraine is one of the world’s leading exporters of cereals, including wheat and corn, and accounts for 12% and 17% of the total supply of these products to the world market, respectively.
At the risk of Russian military conflict with Ukraine, the prices of these basic agricultural products have risen in the world, and the closure of shipping lines has been cited as one of the main reasons for the disruption of grain supply to the world market.
Interestingly, the UN World Food Program has helped 2.5 million people in Ukraine to flee the country. An estimated 8 million people have been displaced in Ukraine and 5 million have fled the country.
According to the Guardian, plans have been put forward to transport Ukrainian agricultural products by rail, in cooperation with Ukraine’s neighbors, including Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania.
