Aras is a tactical vehicle made by the Ministry of Defense of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The first model of this car was unveiled on August 21, 2012, at the same time with the National Day of Iran’s Defense Industry and in the presence of the then President and Minister of Defense. Of course, the officials announced that Aras will be available to the people in the future (Wikipedia).

Aras is known for its high mobility due to its use of Toyota platform and chassis. The Aras 2 car also played a very important and strategic role in the war against ISIS, with the purchase of some organizations in Iraq and Syria.

Known in the world market as the BJ40, the car also happens to be used in some versions of the Chinese military and has high mobility.

Due to the internalizations and some other issues, the BJ40 produced by the Ministry of Defense is now called Aras 3!

As mentioned, the Aras 3 is to be produced in three versions: single-cab pickup, two-cab pickup and long chassis mode. Of course, the difference between a two-cab pickup and its long-wheelbase version can only be summed up in one load cover.

What is the story of the Chinese car?

It was in August of this year that in a ceremony, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf visited some of the new achievements of the Ministry of Defense. During this ceremony, a familiar car for us car owners was seen with a different logo. A Chinese car that is famous in world markets and the information of its assembled version was announced by the Ministry of Defense during the visit of the Speaker of the Parliament.

By observing and studying the details of the petrol version of this car, it can be understood that, as it is said, at least in relation to the technical forces of Aras 3, internalization has probably not been done. Because it is the same propulsion that is installed in global markets. The 2.3-liter turbocharged engine, mated to a 5-speed, 6-speed automatic transmission, is capable of producing 251 horsepower, 350 Nm of torque.

Of course, given the production department of the Ministry of Defense, it is expected that the Aras 3 will initially be available to military organizations with a manual gearbox. According to some sources, Aras 3 is also produced with diesel engine.

This engine, which has a volume of 2.8 liters and uses a turbocharging system, seems to be the same engine used in Iran Khodro’s Photon Tanland pickup. The Aras 3 diesel engine is capable of producing 174 horsepower, 360 Nm of torque. The interesting thing is that fortunately, the production version of the Ministry of Defense also benefits from the stability control and traction control system.

Internalization in the body section

But yesterday morning, in a ceremony attended by Amir Sartip Ashtiani, 10 new and upgraded products were unveiled. One of these products is Aras 3 car.

By looking at and comparing the unveiled version with the version seen this summer, one can see differences in the body that may indicate internalization.

In the commercialized versions of the Aras 3 single and double pickup, it can be seen that the bumper part has been upgraded very well and the body is the same color.

Also, the important winch option has been added to Aras 3 and the daytime running lights have been removed from the car. Of course, in military vehicles, daylight is not such an important issue. Snorkel is also one of the parts that has always been popular in Aras series cars and is also available in version 3.

As mentioned, the Aras 3 is a two-differential car in the two-cab version.

The Aras 3 has three modes for transmitting power to the wheels, including 2H (light rear differential), 4H (two light differentials) and 4L (two heavy differentials).

In terms of welfare and safety facilities, finally, considering the military issues, especially those produced in Iran, the following can be mentioned:
