Unveiling of the first giant synchronous electric motor in the country

According to Fars News Agency, in a ceremony attended by Seyed Amir Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi, the country’s first giant synchronous electric motor was unveiled.
The giant synchronous electric motor with an electric power of 4,000 horsepower and 34 poles has been produced for the first time in the country by Joven Electric Machinery Company (JEMCO). These electric motors are used to spin giant mills and large mineral crushers. Synchro electric motors are a group of alternating current (AC) electric motors whose rotors rotate at a constant speed commensurate with the input current frequency. The value of this electric motor is over 200 billion rials.
By making this type of motor, Jamco gained the technical knowledge of making synchronous electric motors. Now, with the help of this device, we have acquired the knowledge of making synchronous electric motors. We used to make asynchronous or induction motors, but we did not have the knowledge to make synchronous. There are about 30 units of this electric motor in the country, which due to the depreciation of this unit, the country needs about 4 units per year. Jamco can produce 2 units of this electric motor per year by creating the necessary conditions.
The copper industry will be inactive without synchronous electric motors. This type of synchronous motors are used in large numbers in the copper industry in mines such as Sarcheshmeh copper, Midouk copper, Qaleh Zari, Khatunabad and even Songun copper, especially in Kerman province and Isfahan area, all of which are imported and originally mainly from the United States. And Canada.
According to the official statistics of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade (in 1993, as the last report in this field), we have 71 active copper mines, 20 inactive copper mines and 9 copper mines being equipped in the country. According to this report, Kerman province is in the first place with 24 active copper mines.
Without synchronous electric motors, not only will these mines not be able to operate, but without these motors, no new copper mines will be built.
Annual copper mining in the country is more than 24 million tons, although its definite reserves in the country are more than 2 billion tons, and different provinces are looking for certificates of discovery to extract from their new mines. Except for 3 provinces of Bushehr, Khuzestan and Ilam, other provinces of Iran have copper reserves with different types.
* Internal production of synchronous motors is a necessity
Replacing existing engines has very high costs, so that each of them costs about 50 to 60 billion tomans. In addition, there are other challenges, including the difficulty of securing them, and if so, the transfer of money to the seller’s country due to banking sanctions. Foreign countries are also reluctant to sell these engines to Iran.
Today, several years after the start of these industries, the need to replace synchronous motors is urgently felt. New types of electric motors are also needed to start new lines so that new mines can be set up. For example, in one of the mines in Kerman, milling and crushing lines are being set up, but it is practically impossible to supply the required engines from abroad, so we desperately need these engines for self-sufficiency in the mining sector.
The same process should be done for all devices used in mines except electric motors. Iran’s economic independence also depends on its ability to access such technologies, and in the current context of international pressure, such equipment is necessary and strategic for the country.
The implementation of the 4,000-horsepower synchronous electromotor project, which lasted for two years and three months, could prevent the outflow of $ 800,000 in foreign exchange. This project was implemented and operational by the order of Midook Copper Company of Kerman province.
