US official: Our priority is a reciprocal return to adherence to the UN Security Council

“As far as we know, we expect the talks to resume before the end of this year,” US State Department spokeswoman Jalina Porter told reporters in Washington on Friday by local time. The end of the year is very close, but what I can say is that the seventh round of talks in Vienna ended today.

Deputy Chief of Staff Ned Price stated that Robert Mali, the US special envoy for Iran, and the accompanying delegation will return to Washington over the weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

“I still can not predict when these talks will resume,” he said.

At the same time, he claimed that what I could say was that our priority was to resume constructive negotiations with all parties seeking to achieve and implement a speedy and reciprocal return to full adherence to the UN Security Council.

Despite remarks by Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service, after the meeting of the Joint Commission on Friday ended and he expressed his hope that the talks would be concluded within the next few weeks, the US Deputy Spokesman said: To say whether Iran has returned with a more constructive approach or not.

At the end of the seventh round of talks between Iran and the P5 + 1 in Vienna, Austria, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said: “We are paying the price for the catastrophic decision to leave the UN Security Council.”

In a speech to the US Council on Foreign Relations on Friday, Sullivan referred to Washington’s fears about the progress of Iran’s nuclear program, saying “we have expressed our concern about the continuation of Iran’s nuclear program through our European allies.”

Biden’s national security adviser claimed that Iran understands these concerns but does not want to openly negotiate them.

Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran’s chief negotiator in the Vienna talks, said at the end of the seventh round of talks that the speed of reaching an agreement depends on the will of the other side. The new one can be the last round of negotiations and we can reach an agreement in the shortest time.

According to IRNA, Bagheri Kani told Iranian reporters after the end of the meeting of the Joint Commission of the Borjam: Had brought the new government to Vienna. Accordingly, we have taken into account the views, views, amendments and proposals of the Iranian team regarding the talks that took place in the previous six rounds and the drafts that had been produced up to that time, and this was included in the negotiating documents and presented to the other side. we did.

“Specifically, two documents were important for the negotiations,” he said. One document related to the lifting of sanctions, which was the main priority and important agenda of the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Of course, this priority is not only ours, but also other parties, including some P5 + 1 members such as China, have explicitly stated in the meetings that their priority is in line with the priority of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the lifting of sanctions. Accordingly, the amendments and cases of the new team were included in the document related to the lifting of sanctions and presented to the other party. Accordingly, a new framework for dialogue on the lifting of sanctions was formed.

Bagheri Kenny added: “During the few days that we had the Vienna 7 talks – about less than 20 days – several meetings were held on the issue of lifting sanctions between the parties, both at the level of the heads of the negotiating teams and at the level of working groups and experts. Several documents were exchanged between the two sides to exchange views between the two sides on the amendments or changes to be made to the text. We received the latest document today on the lifting of sanctions.

The Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service also said after the end of the meeting of the Joint Commission on Friday that the participants reached a joint text to negotiate the revival of the provisions of the 2015 agreement.

Enrique Moura told reporters that the draft includes various views and proposals of the P4 + 1 and Iran on lifting sanctions, nuclear issues and executive arrangements.

He said that this does not mean reaching an agreement, but will be the basis for continuing talks. The European official expressed the sense of urgency among the negotiators to revive the 1994 agreement and expressed hope that the talks would be concluded in the next few weeks.

The seventh round of talks between Iran and the P5 + 1 in the new Iranian government began on November 29, when the Iranian delegation presented two proposed documents, including the lifting of oppressive sanctions and the nuclear issue, to which the West requested consultations with its capitals. Had.

After consulting with their capitals, the talks resumed on December 9, ending on Friday, December 17, with the closing meeting of the Joint Commission.
