Vacancy of technology in construction – Tejaratnews

According to Tejarat News, one of the promises of the Minister of Roads and Urban Development was the introduction of technology into the housing industry, but this goal has not been achieved so far.

The technological perspective in the construction industry is an issue that the Minister of Roads and Urban Development emphasized in his first working days. Mehrdad Bazarpash said at the research week ceremony yesterday: “The Ministry of Roads and Urban Development should be run more technologically than in the past and move according to technology and knowledge. Research should not lag behind us.”

The topic of using new technologies in house building has been raised for years, but statistics show that little progress has been made in this field. According to experts in the construction industry, the useful life of buildings in the last 50 years has been approximately 30 years.

In the early 1990s, with the arrival of a Turkish company to implement the Mehr housing project in Pardis and Parand, methods were used to implement the plans, and Iranian builders also took advantage of those ideas and used them in their projects. At present, methods such as tunnel, superpanel, bolt and prefab are used by Iranian manufacturers, which are up-to-date technologies. Of course, the use of prefabricated structures is not common in Iran due to problems in connecting parts, but other technologies are used.

In this regard, Iraj Rahbar, the head of the mass builders’ association of Tehran Province, told ISNA: “For about five decades, large and good projects were implemented in Iran with the technologies of its time, which still have good design and strength.” But the construction industry did not receive the necessary support.

Construction machinery is not up to date

He added: Although the methods currently used in the construction industry are up-to-date, we are having problems in issues such as supplying new machinery. Most of our machines are from the 80s and 90s. Even our towers are old. Therefore, if the government wants to support the housing sector so that we can update our production line, it should give us the possibility to upgrade machinery through customs exemptions.

Surveys show that there is no effective connection between the university and the construction industry body. In science and technology parks, ideas usually do not reach the housing sector or there are disturbances between this communication. Builders say that there is not even much connection between the Road, Housing and Urban Development Research Center and the private sector. Mass builders often gain their knowledge from their own experiences.

Recently, Mohammad Mahdi Heydari – head of the Road, Housing and Urban Development Research Center said that creating a link between elites and executive bodies is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development. A draft regulation for supporting knowledge-based companies has been prepared and we are in the process of understanding to benefit from the capacities of knowledge-based companies.

It was about a year ago that the issue of consultation for the entry of Turkish and Chinese companies into the National Housing Movement project in order to improve construction technologies was raised; An idea that has not yet been implemented.

On the other hand, Iranian builders say that despite the presence of 500,000 engineers in the country, there is no need to use foreigners in the construction industry. But mass builders talk about the Achilles heel in construction technologies, all of which lead to the lack of necessary support from the authorities and the lack of close communication between knowledge producers and users in the construction industry.
