Western sanctions strengthened Russia’s foothold in Asia

According to the report of Fars News Agency’s International Economy reporter, citing Energy Pulse, Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister and former Minister of Energy of Russia, said in a recently published article; Since this country has been forced to direct its oil and gas exports from unfriendly countries to friendly countries, Russia’s exports to Asia and the Pacific have increased over the past year.

According to this high-ranking Russian official, the country’s oil exports to Asian countries exceeded the country’s exports to Europe for the first time in May 2022. Until the end of last year, Russian oil exports to so-called friendly countries that did not support Western sanctions against Russia increased by 76%. In general, almost 40 million tons of Russian oil and oil products went to Asian countries last year instead of going to Western countries.

Novak continued: Russia’s export to Asia is the result of Western sanctions against this country due to the military conflict with Ukraine. The imposed sanctions have targeted many economic sectors of this country, including oil exports.

The former Russian energy minister wrote in his article; During the last year and a half, due to the illegal actions of the western countries, the Russian energy sector has expanded its presence in the eastern countries, where the most profitable and growing energy markets of the world are located.

He said: At the same time, before the imposition of sanctions, Russia sought to diversify its oil and gas export destinations, and now this policy has fully proven its effectiveness.
