What are the 5 important questions of the audience in media literacy? / Solutions to understand the goals of the media

According to Fars News Agency’s Radio and TV reporter, Leila Wasali, the Vice President of Education of the Media Literacy Association of Iran, regarding the goals of publishing media messages and the necessity of media literacy in Salam Tehran program, said: In media literacy, it is recommended that people ask themselves five questions and think six questions; There are five questions about the sender of the message, why it is sent, its audience, the type of impact and the tools and techniques of sending it. Every message pursues goals and tries to influence a number of audiences. If this message succeeds in influencing its target audience, it has achieved its goals.
Vasali continued: The tools of each message also include things like different camera lenses and filming models, lighting methods, camera angles and similar things that have different effects on the audience’s mind. For example, to make a person look bad, different angles are used to convey the intended meaning to the audience.
The vice president of education of the Iranian Media Literacy Association added: For example, it often happens these days that people’s videos are cut so that only a part of what people say is published and has a negative impact on the minds of others. People in this situation can refer to the full versions of the video to know the authenticity of the person’s statements in the video and to understand his full point of view.
He stated: Another important point is to examine the effect of a message; To better understand the messages, they should be placed next to each other and examined to understand their goals. For example, the news these days can be very disturbing because there are many young people who have mentioned the effects of cyberspace on their thoughts. This shows that, unfortunately, our society has poor media literacy.
Leila Vasali said: We should not simply accept the messages of cyberspace and we should always ask to know its authenticity. We must pay attention to the main authority of sending messages and also pay attention to other people’s perception of the message. Different people have different interpretations of the same messages and that’s why we have to consider all these things. Another important point of media literacy is to examine its benefits and economic relations in order to know for whom the publication of these messages is beneficial.
