What cases does Erdogan investigate in Tehran? – Mehr news agency Iran and world’s news

Mehr News Agency, International Group – Azar Mahdavan: The President of Turkey will visit Iran tomorrow, Monday. During this trip, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has five important cases on his agenda, including the development of relations between Tehran and Ankara, as well as the Syrian issue.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will travel to Tehran on Monday evening, July 27, with the aim of participating in the “Astana Process Leaders” meeting. Erdoğan is going to meet President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi on the sidelines of this trip.

According to the latest information obtained by Mehr reporter, in this trip Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Suylu, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkish Intelligence Agency Head Hakan Fidan, Turkish Presidential Institution Head Fakhruddin Altun, Turkish Presidential Office Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin, Fatih Turkey’s Energy Minister Donemez and Turkey’s Trade Minister Mehmet Mosh will accompany Erdogan. But in the meantime, some media close to Erdogan have published details about the Turkish President’s visit, which shows that five important cases will be discussed during the Turkish-Iranian President’s meetings. Erdoğan’s trip is presented:

Signing a long-term cooperation document

According to the claims of the media close to the think tank of the Justice and Development Party, there is a possibility of signing a long-term cooperation document between the two countries (Iran and Turkey). Recently, the Turkish government is following the path of normalizing relations with the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt in the political environment of its society, on the basis of which it plans to raise the bilateral relations between Iran and Turkey to a higher level, for this long-term cooperation document between Tehran and Ankara. It will mostly include increasing economic and trade relations. It is expected that the process of the trade corridor between Turkey, Iran and the UAE will also be included in this memorandum of understanding. It should be mentioned that the transportation time has been reduced from 21 days to one week by starting the commercial route from the UAE and reaching the Turkish port of Iskenderun via Iran.

Dealing with terrorism, immigration crisis and all kinds of smuggling

Among the other axes that will be discussed between the leaders of Iran and Turkey will be the issue of terrorism, migration of Afghan citizens and human trafficking. The issue of border security is one of the concerns of the two countries and they have pursued many cooperations in this regard. Earlier, in the statement of the 6th meeting of the Turkey-Iran Strategic Council, the issue of fighting terrorism and ensuring border security was emphasized, and in this regard, the cooperation of the two countries was followed in the framework of different programs.

In a conversation with Sabah newspaper, Suleyman Soylu, one of the Turkish government ministers, said that Iran, like Turkey, is worried about illegal immigrants and that there is serious cooperation between Ankara and Tehran in the fight against immigration and smuggling. Of course, participating in the seventh session of the Turkey-Iran Strategic Council is also one of Erdogan’s travel plans.

Ukraine-Russia war and energy crisis

Another topic that is expected to be discussed between Erdogan and the president of our country is Russia’s special operation in Ukraine and its impact on the energy crisis. As a country that imports energy carriers, Turkey is worried about being affected by the war in Ukraine and the critical issue of energy supply. Although he took measures aimed at mediation to solve the issue of Ukraine, it did not bring any results, and this has created speculations about the dialogue between the two presidents of Iran and Turkey and the bilateral and trilateral talks between Putin, Raisi and Erdogan.

3+3 hexagonal platform

In December 2019, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, after attending the victory parade in the Republic of Azerbaijan, proposed the idea of regional cooperation between Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia and Turkey under the title of the Caucasus Regional Group project, which later became the platform It was called 6-sided. In June of the following year, Erdogan repeated his offer during his trip to Shusha, which was liberated in the Karabakh war. Iran also welcomed this idea at the level of the foreign minister and the ambassadors of the resident countries.

Following that, on December 19, 1400, the first meeting of regional cooperation known as 3+3 format consisting of three South Caucasus countries (Azerbaijan-Armenia-Georgia, of course, without the presence of the representative of Georgia due to political issues with Russia) and three neighboring countries with this The region including Russia-Turkey and Iran was held at the level of deputy foreign ministers of these countries in Moscow. Although the second round of the meeting was supposed to be held in March last year, the start of the war in Ukraine delayed the meeting. According to the Iranian and Turkish officials, the second round of the Six-Party Platform meeting hosted by Tehran will be held in the near future. Examining the details of this meeting will probably be one of the topics discussed by the Iranian and Turkish delegation on the sidelines of Erdogan’s visit.

Syria; Erdogan’s most important case

Although the Syrian issue is considered to be a source of disagreement between Turkey and Iran, in the past we have witnessed the cooperation of the two countries to solve this issue in the form of relations based on mutual understanding and diplomacy at the Astana meeting. But Turkey’s adventures in Syria have left the Damascus issue unsolved. The words of Turkish officials and the news of this country’s media show that the Turkish armed forces, in cooperation with the Free Syrian Army (supported by Ankara), are preparing for the fourth operation on the Syrian border.

Recently, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, during a trip to Turkey and Syria and meeting with the leaders of these countries, tried to resolve Ankara’s security concerns not through aggressive attacks but again through diplomacy. Regarding the objectives of his trip to Syria, Amir Abdullahian said in a tweet that part of his trip to Syria is in the framework of strengthening regional stability, peace and security between Syria and Turkey. In this regard, it seems that the Syrian case will be one of the most important issues discussed by Erdogan with Iran and even Russian officials during his visit to Tehran.
