What is going on in the 13th edition of the “Film 100” festival? / Filmmaking talents lined up

According to the film reporter of Fars News Agency, Mellat Cinema Campus, in addition to hosting important film events this year, hosted a different event from Wednesday, the 10th of March. Meanwhile, the 100th International Film Festival is ending its 13th edition under the chairmanship of Youssef Mansouri, and tonight, Friday, March 12, with the closing ceremony, Iranian cinema witnessed the revival of one of its most important festivals. But why is it important to hold this event and what happened to it during this period?

* Revival of a festival after 4 years

It was 18 years ago that the organizers of the 100 Film Festival came up with the idea of launching a festival with the aim of screening and evaluating short films in 100 seconds. This idea soon established an event with the support of the artistic field, which received a special welcome from filmmaking enthusiasts from the very first steps. After the twelfth edition of this event was held in 1997, due to problems such as the spread of Corona, the event was interrupted for 4 years. From this point of view, the 13th edition of the 100 Film Festival can be seen as the revival of an important cinematic event.

An event that received more than 19,000 short films from the first period until the end of the 12th period, and nearly 9,000 interested filmmakers were present with their short works.

* How many works did the 13th period host?

According to the mentioned statistics, it was far from expected that the call for the 13th edition of the 100 Film Festival would be welcomed by the fans. With the announcement of the end of the deadline for sending works to the 13th Film Festival 100, a total of 4622 works were registered in the secretariat of the festival in three sections: national, international and children and teenagers. In the national section, out of 2195 works received by the festival secretariat, 173 works entered the festival in the national section, of which 97 works in the competition section and 76 works in the non-competitive section were displayed on the days of the festival.

In the international section, among the 2427 works received by the secretariat, 88 works made it to the 13th festival, out of which 39 works were screened in the competition section and 49 in the out-of-competition section. Also, 69 works in the children’s audience section were selected by the selection board for the 100 Film Festival, of which 25 works were in the competition section and 44 were in the non-competitive section. The important thing is that during the two days of screening of these works at the Mellat Cinema Campus, there were no restrictions for the audience and all those interested in short films had the opportunity to watch the works of the festival for free.

* What was going on in the “Melet” campus?

The programs of the 13th 100th International Film Festival during the two days held at the Mellat Cinema Campus were not limited to the screening of films, and other important programs such as educational workshops and the idea launch event were also held in the heart of this festival. Among the prominent Iranian cinematographers who shared their experiences in the 13th Film 100 festival in the form of educational workshops, Kazem Daneshi, the director of the film “Alafzar” is one of the phenomena of the 40th Fajr Film Festival, and Lili Aaj, the director of the film “Colonel Soraya” is one of the successful works. The 40th Fajr Film Festival mentioned.

In addition to educational workshops, the first round of the “100 x 100” throwing event was also held in this festival. An event that was previously held as “Pitching” in various festivals, and this time it was held with a focus on ideas for the medium of short cinema in the form of the 100 Festival. In this event, 21 project owners explained and defended their ideas for filmmaking with the aim of attracting investors.

* Contribution of faces from the 13th “100” festival

One of the important points about the 13th International Film Festival 100 was the presence and company of prestigious cinema figures in the composition of the selection and judging committees of this event. Kazem Danshi, Ebrahim Amini, Sajjad Nowrozi, Behrouz Nooranipour, Hadi Naiji, and Mohammad Khairandish were some of the film personalities present in the selection committees of the three main sections of this year’s festival.

However, in the composition of the jury, more experienced figures such as Kamal Tabrizi, Puran Derakhshandeh, Mohammad Hossein Latifi, Hadi Moghadamdoost, Bahram Azimi and Mohammad Reza Khordmendan evaluated the work of younger filmmakers. With this support, tonight and at the closing ceremony of the 13th Film 100 Festival, we will witness the honoring of unknown talents who are unlikely to become the most famous faces of Iranian cinema in the near future.
