What is happening in Tehran’s galleries these days/ from destruction to the opening of light

According to the visual arts correspondent of Fars news agency, it has been several months since the voluntary closure of Tehran galleries. According to experts, the closure of galleries will cause irreparable damage to the professional atmosphere and economy of visual arts, and curators of this art field should resume their activities like other businesses.

*They are just sellers like any other business

Mahmoudreza Bahmanpour, an art expert and gallery owner, says about the activity or lack of activity of galleries: “Talking about this requires a presupposition that is often ignored in these controversies. In my opinion, galleries have no substantive difference from other economic activities, they are art products. the dignity of a gallery owner is the same as that of a clothing boutique, book store, or coffee shop, unless their individual awareness presents them with a different personality, but gallery owners operate in a context as if they have dignity and dignity, and consider themselves the basis and source of values. They know culture, that’s why they make a statement, or enter the field of political themes and see themselves as superior as isolated activists; But they are just sellers, just like all other businesses, like the work of publishers, like the work of magazines, like dozens of other jobs whose mission is business” (source: Survey of the artist’s profession magazine about the reopening of galleries).

* We are against the closing of galleries under any circumstances

Abdolreza Sohrabi, Director General of the Visual Arts Center of the country, in a conversation with the media, emphasized that: “The Visual Arts Center did not and does not agree with the closing of the galleries, because it considers the galleries across the country to be the only permanent platform for the economy of art and the supply of visual arts.” While we are against the closing of galleries under any circumstances, we are equally trying to provide a suitable space for their activities.”

In this regard, Sohrabi emphasized: “We are against the closing of galleries under any circumstances, we are equally trying to provide a suitable environment for their activities.”

Although the majority of artists active in the field of visual arts are interested in continuing their activities, many galleries have not yet resumed their activities, and the economic situation of numerous artists in this art field is becoming more difficult day by day.

Although some galleries had problems with their openings, but despite all the difficulties, every week we see good exhibitions held in the city of Tehran, which can keep the spirit of this art alive. They are held in Tehran galleries in January and the audience can visit them.
