The new update of WhatsApp will allow the use of username instead of phone number. This feature is a direct copy of Telegram.

WhatsApp, the world’s most popular messaging app, has released a new update through the Google Play beta program that includes a useful feature for users who are members of multiple chat groups. Based on this feature, when you receive a message from an unknown contact in a group chat, the username will replace the phone number.

This feature, which is considered a direct copy of Telegram, was first introduced in the beta version of WhatsApp 2.22.25.10 for the Android platform, which replaced the contact number with the username in the message bubbles of chat groups. With the latest WhatsApp update, this feature has also been added to the chat list so that users can know the identity of the unknown person who sent the message without having to save the number as a new contact.

Username instead of phone number in WhatsApp

This feature will be especially effective in large group chats where it is difficult to identify anonymous members. Displaying the username of the contacts may also replace the phone number in other parts of the program, such as the list of group participants.

The ability to use a username instead of a phone number on WhatsApp is currently available to some beta testers and is expected to roll out to more users in the coming days. In general, WhatsApp’s new copy of Telegram will be a useful feature for many users of this messenger who have problems with identifying unknown audiences in group chats.
