White House: Russia may provide fighters to Iran

According to the report of Fars News Agency, John Kirby, the spokesman of the National Security Council of the White House, stated in a press conference today that Russia may provide Iran with fighter jets.

Following the unproven claims of Western countries, John Kirby also said that Iran has transferred tank and artillery shells to Russia and expanded its support to Russia in the war.

He claimed that Russia has promised Iran unprecedented defense cooperation, including in the field of missiles, electronics and air defense.

John Kirby claimed: “We believe that Russia may provide fighters to Iran. In addition, Iran is looking to buy more military equipment from Russia, including attack helicopters, radars and Yak-130.

An hour earlier, in a conversation with Al-Monitor, the officials of the US Ministry of Defense expressed concern about the consequences of intensifying the partnership between Iran and Russia for the balance of power in the West Asian region.

The Al-Monitor website writes: “American officials say that Russia’s attack on Ukraine has provided Iran with an opportunity to strengthen its drone skills and potentially develop its proxies in Syria.”

According to this analysis, while one year has passed since Russia’s war in Ukraine, American officials are worried that the military partnership between Iran and Russia may be upgraded to a strategic coordination and have dangerous consequences for the Middle East.

Some analysts have said that Iran’s plans to receive about 25 Sukhoi-35 fighter jets from Russia as well as S-400 missile defense systems could complicate the military deterrence of the United States and Israel against Iran’s nuclear program.

A senior Pentagon official who is responsible for American forces in the region told reporters on the condition of anonymity that he does not anticipate the deployment of F-35 or F-22 fighters in the Middle East to deter possible Iranian Sukhoi-35s.

Pentagon officials have also admitted that the addition of Russian technologies to Iran’s large collection of surveillance drones will increase the dangers of these drones for the American military in the region.

An American general said that the issue that is more worrying is the possibility of high-level coordination between Russia and Iran in the field of regional strategies, especially in Syria.

About ten days ago, the commander of the Air Force of the Centcom terrorist organization, Alexos Greenkevich, said that he expects cooperation between Iran and Russia to increase in Syria.

This Centcom commander, who spoke at the “American Aerospace Forces Association” on February 24, added that the Pentagon expects Russia and Iran to continue military-technical cooperation and increase cooperation in Syria.

Referring to the military-technical cooperation between Iran and Russia, he said: “I think it will continue.” Greenkevich further claimed that this cooperation will have consequences for the entire region.

He said: “Of course, this issue will have consequences for Syria as well.” There, both Russians and Iranians are trying to strengthen their position.”

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia have previously denied the accusations of Ukraine and Western countries regarding the delivery of drones to Russia for use in the Ukrainian war.

In his latest statement, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian stated in a joint press conference with his Qatari counterpart: “The long-standing relations between Iran and Russia are ongoing within the framework of mutual interests, and any constructive relations between Iran and Russia should not be considered and interpreted in opposition to other parties.” to be Moreover, the relations between Iran and Ukraine should not be interpreted as enmity or at the expense of the other side.

The head of the diplomatic service of the Islamic Republic of Iran had said before: Iran and Russia, like Iran and other countries, have diverse cooperation, including cooperation in the field of defense, but we have been and are against war in Ukraine and anywhere in the world.
