White House: Russia’s accusations against the American journalist are baseless

According to Fars News Agency’s International Group, the White House spokesman said on Tuesday that the charges against the detained journalist in Russia were baseless and he should be released immediately.

Speaking at the White House press conference, he said that the officials of the American consulate have not yet been able to access the Wall Street Journal reporter.

The White House spokesperson further pointed to the release of the Pentagon’s secret documents and said: “The Pentagon has acted quickly in order to deal with possible consequences against national security due to the release of recent information.”

He said: “There is no indication that Egypt has given Russia lethal weapons.”

According to a recently leaked US secret document, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi planned to provide tens of thousands of rockets to the Kremlin amid the Ukraine war. According to this document, al-Sisi orders his officials to keep the shipment and mass production of weapons secret in order to avoid problems with the West.

According to the Washington Post, this highly confidential document dated February 17, includes the discussions of Egyptian officials about how to supply gunpowder and artillery produced by Egyptian factories to Russian partners.

Egypt is one of America’s long-time allies, which receives more than one billion dollars in military aid from it annually, and at the same time, under Sisi’s rule, it has deepened relations with Moscow.

According to Business Insider, the revelation, which was first reported by the Washington Post, could have a negative impact on US-Egyptian relations and lead to possible sanctions if Egypt has indeed secretly provided weapons to Russia.

At the same time, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman of the Russian presidency, said that the reports about Egypt’s plan to secretly send rockets to Russia are fake and called this claim a new lie.

End of message.
