Why did the cinematographers go after the image of the 60s?

Charso Press: From the middle of the 80s and after a decade of the 60s, Iranians began to reminisce about this special decade. The generation of the 60s, who had reached adolescence and youth, began to recount their memories and build their shared memories and interests.

This issue was also taken into consideration in the cinema and films were made whose story took place in the sixties and represented the lifestyle and social conditions of that time. These films were well received by the audience, although they are not successful films in terms of filmmaking criteria and cinematic standards.

Expulsions one, two, three

Expulsions, made by Masoud De Namaki, was one of the first films that depicted the atmosphere of the sixties in the middle of the eighties. The first film of this trilogy, which was released in 2006, was the story of several young people from the south of the city, each of whom goes to the front with specific problems and for different reasons. One of them, who is a local lot, goes to the front to get his favorite girl, one of them is an addict, another is a coward, and the rest have their own problems. Their collective presence in the front creates funny stories. This comedy became the best-selling movie of 2006 with sales of more than 2 billion Tomans in 2006 (equivalent to 300 billion Tomans in 1402). A large part of the film takes place in the front and of course part of the story also takes place in the city and at home. In both parts and especially in the urban space, you can see the representation of the lifestyle, clothing and houses of the sixties. With the stunning success of the film at the box office, its subsequent parts were made and released in 1988 and 1989, of course, the third part takes place in the years after the sixties.

Bulletproof film

Antibullet, Mustafa Kiai

Bulletproof, directed by Mustafa Kiaei and starring Mehdi Hashemi, Jaleh Samti, Masoud Karamati and Mohsen Kiaei, takes place in the mid-60s during the Iran-Iraq war and is about a middle-aged man in Tehran whose job is to smuggle Los Angeles tapes and videos. Is. As a result of an incident, he finds out that he has a tumor in his head and will not survive for another two months. This incident makes him decide to go to the front. But no bullet will work on him. The film shows the everyday life and concerns of people in those years in a comedy atmosphere.

Amber whale movie

Nahang Anbar one and two, Saman Moghadam,

One of the most successful comedies that was released in the mid-nineties was Saman Moghadam’s Amber Whale. This film was able to be released on the screen in May 1994 with the problems it encountered for the license and by making two amendments and became the second best-selling film of that year. The film, starring Reza Attaran and Mahnaz Afshar, is a romantic comedy that takes place in the sixties and depicts youth and falling in love in this decade. In this film, the dressing of young people in the sixties is represented and even the music of that period is used in it.

Arjang Sanobar (Reza Attaran), a 50-year-old man, has different and difficult romantic experiences in his life. He, who has loved Roya (Mahnaz Afshar) since childhood, cannot marry her for some reasons, and Roya goes to America with his family due to the social restrictions of the sixties. Arjang, who has never forgotten the dream, does strange things and faces the dream again at different times. But it fails every time. The success of this movie made Saman Moghadam make Nahang Anbar 2 two years later with the title Selection Roya. Nahang Anbar 2 portrays Arjang and Roya in their middle age, while Roya has returned to Iran from America after her failed marriage and this time they are married despite all the events that happen. The film has flashbacks to the past of the two, which takes place in the sixties, and again with the same comedy atmosphere, it is a reconstruction of the lifestyle and relationships of people and the limitations of that period.

Confiscated movie

Confiscation, Mehran Ahmadi

Mehran Ahmadi’s first directorial experience is a comedy that narrates forty years of the life of a SAVAK employee. Ismail Yarjanlou wins a national grant by buying a lottery ticket and buys 5 thousand meters of land in Abbas Abad with the money he won. However, with the fall of the Shah and the victory of the revolution, he is forced to leave Iran and gives the land to his friend Jalal Mohadadi. An owner takes over the land and for forty years lied to Ismail that his land has been confiscated and that he is solving the problem. Reza Attaran, Homan Sidi and Babak Hamidian are present in this movie.

Centipede movie

Hazarpa, Abolhassan Davodi

Hazarpa by Abolhasan Davoudi is about Reza and Mansour, two close friends and thieves who live in the early sixties. Through his mother, who is looking for a suitable girl for him, Reza finds out that Ilham, who is from a rich family, wants to marry a boy who is a veteran. Reza, who lost one of his legs in an accident and uses a prosthetic leg, seized the opportunity to get close to the girl. He goes to Elham’s workplace, which runs a nursing home for veterans, and works for himself under any pretext.

From this summary of the story, it is clear that its comedy load is in the face of two spectrums with two different attitudes. Of course, the film has received negative reviews, but at the time of its release, it was well received by the audience and even won the title of the best-selling film in the history of Iranian cinema. Although the criterion of such calculations is not clear, it shows the audience’s interest in recreating the nostalgic spaces of the sixties.

Reza Attaran is also present in this movie, like Amber Whale and Hazarpa, and besides him, Javad Ezzati, Sara Bahrami and Mehran Ahmadi also play in it.
