Why has the strategic cooperation between Russia and Iran doubled? – Mehr news agency Iran and world’s news

According to Mehr news agency, the analytical databasecritical TritzIn a report on the significant increase in strategic cooperation between Iran and Russia, especially in space post war Ukraine discussed and mentioned the improvement of Tehran’s position and weight in interactions with Moscow. In the following, we read parts of it;

Since the beginning of Russian special military operations in Ukraine in February 2022, Russia and Iran have expanded their strategic partnership. In recent months, the senior officials of Russia and Iran have met each other many times to strengthen cooperation and sign economic and military agreements.

These two countries have cooperated with each other many times since their common interests have increased, especially since they shared their enmity with the United States and aligned themselves against the presence of the United States in the Middle East. The recent interactions between Moscow and Tehran reveal their solidarity and more coordinated efforts to strengthen their partnership.

“Vladimir Putin” and “Ebrahim Raisi”, the presidents of Russia and Iran, respectively, have spoken to each other at least four times since the beginning of the Ukraine war, which is far more than any of them have spoken to other world leaders. Putin visited Tehran in July 2022. It is worth noting that this was the first foreign trip of the Russian president outside of Russia since the beginning of the war.

These interactions reflect the deepening of Tehran-Moscow relations. It also showed that the balance of relations between these two countries has increased and Russia is no longer the dominant party in these relations. The participation of Iran and Russia is likely to seriously challenge the interests of the United States and its allies in Europe, the Middle East and around the world.

Economic cooperation

Russia and Iran are trying to increase bilateral trade and settlement through the use of non-dollar currencies. In recent months, Russian and Iranian officials have agreed on the following:

*Creating Tehran-Moscow business centers in joint economic zones

* Increasing passenger flights between Russia and Iran and other air cooperation

* Increasing food exports to Russia

*Increasing the use of electronic payment systemMir» Russia to replace with SWIFT financial transaction service; Because Russian banks were sanctioned and banned from using SWIFT following the attack on Ukraine.

Expanding bilateral trade and conducting transactions without the US dollar is one of the goals that Russia and Iran have been pursuing for a long time. Therefore, it is easy to understand that these agreements are very important.

It seems that Moscow is pursuing efforts to expand relations with Iran with more urgency due to its increasing global isolation and the pressure of international sanctions.

In addition, Iran is also seeking to increase economic interaction with Belarus. In this regard, Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade, Sidreza Fatemi Amin, signed agreements in the fields of automobile manufacturing, medicine and transportation on July 29 during a trip to Minsk. Agreements between Iran and Belarus show Tehran’s willingness to cooperate with Belarus despite international sanctions. It should be noted that the West has sanctioned the automobile industry of Russia and Belarus.

Changing power dynamics

At the end of the reportcritical TritzIt is said: “Now Iran’s weight in these cooperations has become heavier than in the past. Previously, Tehran sought to buy military technologies from Moscow, but now the Kremlin Drones uses Irani in Ukraine, which showcases Iran’s capabilities to other potential international buyers. This issue is in Iran’s interest.” Of course, it should be noted that this claim was made by the Western media and neither Moscow nor Tehran confirmed this issue are.
