Why is the “Book Garden” cinema campus not reopened?

Fars News Agency, Cinema Group: The outbreak of Corona virus has had many negative effects on our country. Impacts that covered a wide range; But one of the most obvious was the closure of guilds. This incident dealt a severe blow to our country’s economy and left many people homeless.

The cinema was also one of the guilds that closed after the outbreak of the Corona virus, and the livelihoods of many of the people who worked in it were in trouble. The closure of the country’s cinemas lasted for months, and this led some filmmakers to the brink of bankruptcy.

With the arrival of the Corona vaccine in Iran and the injection of several million of these vaccines, cinemas across the country were reopened; But in the meantime, there were cinemas that did not reopen, and this issue raised the voices of many audiences.

One of these cinemas, which did not reopen after the corona courier, is the Book Garden Cinema Campus. The cinema campus has been closed for months and many audiences have asked why it was closed.

We followed the story of the closure of the “Bagh-e-Kitab” cinema campus by Mohammad Reza Faraji, Director General of the Cinema Organization.

One of the best cinemas in the country

Faraji said about this cinema campus: “Bagh-e-Kitab” cinema campus has been one of the best cinemas in Iran in the past few years. This cinema was opened at a time when Iranian cinema was facing a severe shortage of cinema, and the addition of this capacity solved part of the crisis of shortage of cinemas.

Regarding the activities of the cinema organization for the reopening of the “Bagh-e-Kitab” cinema campus, he said: “We negotiated in several stages with the cinema contractor and the municipality of Tehran, which is the main owner of this cinema, and tried to convince both parties to reopen the cinema.” ; But the differences are still unresolved.

The director of Iranian cinema announced about the reason for the closure of the “Bagh-e-Kitab” cinema campus: This cinema, like all cinemas in the country, was closed due to the rise of the Corona courier; But after the end of the corona peak, when all cinemas reopened, the Book Garden Cinema Campus did not reopen.

Faraji continued: with the follow-up of the cinema organization, the main reason for the closure of the “Bagh-e-Kitab” cinema campus is the sharp difference between the contractor and the Tehran Municipality complex.

Regarding the possible reopening of the “Bagh-e-Kitab” cinema campus, he said: “The Cinema Organization and the Fajr Film Festival are pursuing the reopening of this cinema campus as soon as possible.” In my opinion, if there is any effort, the “Book Garden” cinema campus can be reopened soon.

Therefore, according to the report, considering that the “Bagh-e-Kitab” cinema campus is a subset of the “Nashr-e-Shahr” institute of Tehran Municipality, we also followed up the reason for the closure of this cinema campus with Mohsen Jalali Farahani, the managing director of the Nashr-e-Shahr institute.

Reopening until 1401

Jalali Farahani said about the closure of “Bagh-e-Kitab” cinema campus: “After the construction of” Bagh-e-Kitab “cinema campus was completed, the operating company of this cinema accepted a contract to mortgage this cinema campus for three years instead of a part of its money.”

He continued: “At the same time, an amount was considered as the profit ceiling of the cinema operator, but now the sale of the cinema has exceeded that ceiling and the operator is indebted to the municipality of Tehran.”

The managing director of “Nashr-e Shahr” institute announced: the cinema contract expired in February 2016 and the cinema operator should have handed over the management of the cinema to Tehran Municipality after this date; However, he refused to make this transfer and the Tehran Municipality pursued its claim legally.

Jalali Farahani stated about the reason for not handing over the management of “Bagh-e-Kitab” cinema campus by the operating company: The operating company claims that it has not used this cinema as it should and Tehran Municipality should extend his contract.

In response to the question whether the “Bagh-e-Kitab” cinema campus will be reopened by the time of the Fajr Film Festival, he said: “The reopening of this cinema campus will definitely not reach the 40th Fajr Film Festival; But we are trying to reopen the “Book Garden” cinema campus until Nowruz 1401.

Fars News Agency Cinema and Theater Group made many efforts to listen to the conversations of Seyed Saeed Tabatabai and Ahmad Reza Abolsadegh, who were the main contractors of “Bagh-e-Kitab” cinema campus, and to examine the issue of closing this cinema from their point of view; But they did not respond to Fars News Agency calls and messages.
