Why Shahab Hosseini has been disrespected?

The actor of the movie “Talakhoon” believes: Shahab Hosseini has been unloved because of his excessive compassion and love. Maybe if he kept silent like many others, he would not have been judged so much.
Charso Press: “Tallahoun”, which is on the cinema screen these days, tells the story of a criminal case and the conflict of a woman named Nahid with this story. This movie, which is made in the social-drama genre, is directed by Ebrahim Shibani.
Shahab Hosseini, Hossam Manzoor, Tarnam Kermanian, Zahra Khoshkam and Bahar Ghasemi are the main actors of this movie.
Bahar Ghasemi, the young actor of this film, said in a part of this interview about the experience of acting with Shahab Hosseini: Anyway, everyone likes to act with professional people. Apart from me, I also read many interviews where numerous actors said that they would like to act with Shahab Hosseini. As I said, I liked acting with many actors, but the presence of Shahab Hosseini was more like a miracle. He is the pride of Iranian art and has no equal in terms of artistic, moral and personality. I believe that Shahab Hosseini has been unloved because of his excessive compassion and love. Maybe if he kept silent like many others, he would not have been judged so much. Apart from this, playing against them was very difficult and full of stress. Because most of our sequences were two-person. I say this despite the presence of 50 witnesses that since Mr. Hosseini’s presence at the filming, all the sequences from the beginning to the end were done with two takes. They spent a lot of time on me and gave me a lot of energy and motivation.
In the following, we read the details of the conversation of this young actor who played the role of Mahin Qadiri (a serial killer):
*”Talakhoon” is your first long and professional work with Ebrahim Shibani. What made you play this?
It has been almost seven or eight years since I entered this space. My acquaintance with Mr. Shibani began when I went to a school to audition for the “Aban” series. Of course, this work was never done, but it made me familiar with him. At first, Mr. Shibani considered well-known actors for “Tallahoun”, but one day they told me what do you think about playing this role. Ishan said that he wants to bring someone whose face is not known for this role. I was very happy when I heard this. Since that day, I gave my whole being to know this character. However, it was a bit scary because I had to play a complex character. But I tried to understand the inner states of this person and perform his external actions. It took almost a year and a half because the script was rewritten several times. At first, the film was from a woman’s point of view, but now we are watching the film from a child’s point of view.
*(Venus) represents a hardworking woman who moves on a narrow border of positive and negative personality and finally shows her true inner self to the viewer. It is very difficult to play such a two-faceted character, but you obviously did it. Tell us a little about this role, did you get help from a psychologist to achieve this role?
It was exactly like that. Dr. Safarinia was our consultant in “Tallahoun”. He explained to me that this character (Mohin Qadiri) has borderline disorder. The symptoms of this disease go back to childhood. When a child feels rejected and disappointed by his parents, these feelings are formed in him and the consequences of these in adulthood cause harm to himself and the society. Exactly the same things happened to the character of the movie (Nahid). Choosing a nickname, instability, suicide, dangerous and stressful emotional behaviors, etc., we see all these in different sequences of the film. All of these are signs that have been planted in “Talakhoon”.
* Have there been any scenes in the work that you are not comfortable with and that bother you a lot?
A bunch of characters involve you whether you want it or not. Especially the role (Nahid) which was based on a real character. After two and a half years, I still remember this character sometimes and it bothers me. In the film, we had a lovely little girl named Hamta who was disabled. The sad part of the matter was that both this child and Mahin Ghadiri’s child were both born healthy, but this happened to them due to a medication error. This issue also bothered me a lot.
* Are parts of the movie “Tallahoun” censored or audited?
Mr. Shibani has used the element of surprise in the structure of the work. Parts of the movie that showed that this person is a murderer were removed, but I don’t know if it was because the story wouldn’t start from the beginning or if there was some other problem.
* What did you do in the process of getting the role (Mohin Qadiri)? Did watching the films left by him help you and playing this role?
I believe that an actor must have technique, but knowing the position of that character is also very important. I remember that I went to Nasser Khosrow several times to see what kind of people this person was messing with, or I took my gold for sale several times knowing the invoice so that I could understand a little of that woman’s feelings. In the process of getting the role, I saw a documentary by (Mohin Qadiri) which was very strange to me. When someone does something several times, it seems to be ugly. During interrogations, he speaks very easily. I myself brought this game in the sequence of the reconstruction of the murder scene in the movie. It was interesting for some people why I play so cool. In response, I said that they should see the documentary by Mahin Qadiri. The most similar place where I saw myself as Mehin Qadiri was that sequence. It is interesting that somewhere in the interrogation, they asked him, “Did you sleep well at night?” And he says in response: Easy. And sometimes he jokes with the interrogators. Some people think that there should be excessive or strange interrogations in the film, but since we had it for the exterior, I tried to imitate the same.
* In Iranian cinema, most of the scripts and characters that are written show passive and victimized women. In “Tallahoun”, despite the fact that Nahid is the victim, we see actions (however bad) from her…
It is exactly like that. In Iranian cinema, we mostly focus on humiliated and passive women. Nahid is not a passive woman. It is true that he has a negative personality, but he reacts to bad situations and is cruel himself. Unfortunately, there are very few female-oriented scripts in Iran. Therefore, I am grateful to Mr. Shibani for trusting me and entrusting me with this different role.
* Naheed in the movie “Tallahoun” was also raped. To play a better role, you must have thought about this issue many times to awaken that feeling in yourself. That’s why it’s not bad to talk a little about the “MeToo” movement. What is your view on this issue and movement?
Since I am not a well-known person, I was not one of the signatories of this statement, but I wholeheartedly support this movement. I know that people’s view of cinema may be bad, but it doesn’t matter because we are waiting for its final result. However, this issue cannot be ignored. These reactions may prevent many injuries.
What are your current activities?
Currently, I am working on the 24-episode series “Khunsard” by Mr. Amir Hossein Torabi and I play the role of a lawyer’s daughter who is the wife of Mr. Amir Aghaei. Apart from that, we are also working on a script together with Mrs. Tajik and Farahani. I have also written a movie that I am rewriting.
* Having said that, is your main concern writing or acting?
My main concern is acting. If I write, it is in order to be able to play by myself.
* Final note
In the end, I would like to say that the film does its job when it can even affect one person. There is a dialogue in the movie that says either don’t give birth to a child or if you do, love him. All young women who are going to be mothers in the future should be aware that they are responsible for raising a generation. This is no small task. Please raise our children with love and self-confidence so that they don’t get involved in various issues in adulthood.
