Why should I play the role of a woman who only brings tea?/ We are human too! – Mehr news agency Iran and world’s news

intelligent Afshar Panah In a conversation with Mehr reporter, the veteran actor of cinema, theater and television explained about his activities these days: I am not currently involved in any project. Of course, I have had offers for work, but firstly for personal reasons and secondly because the quality of the work was not suitable in my opinion, I chose not to accept them.

He also said about his conditions in the days away from artistic activity: At one point, I had at least one theater show on stage every year until the Corona crisis came and the conditions of activity in this field changed completely. For this reason, I was away from the theater scene for almost two years. I have appeared sporadically in films and serials, and I don’t really feel uncomfortable during this time when I am unemployed. I’m waiting for good conditions to work and I prefer not to work until the conditions I like.

The actor continued: During this time, I had several offers, some of which were in the city, and due to my personal circumstances, I did not want to accept them, and the rest of the offers were sexual, which I did not like. Maybe some of my colleagues will accept to work in city projects, and I myself have worked in city locations before, but currently my situation is such that I cannot stay in a city for a long time to work. Neither I can afford it nor my personal life circumstances allow me to do so. After all, we also have responsibilities in life. The least is that I miss my dear grandson. (My grandson is with me now and during this interview, he says with a laugh.)

Film and television work are both experiences for me, there is no difference

Afshar Panah He also said about the high number of television experiences in his career in comparison to film work: “Both of these fields are considered experience for me, and every work offered to me, regardless of whether it is film or television, I look at it as an experience.” Theater also has its place and I have done many works in it. It has not been like this that I have a special focus on television work and choose to be in this field more.

He continued: “Perhaps one of the reasons for my lesser presence in the cinema was that, especially from the 80s onwards, films became a youth atmosphere and there were no more roles suitable for our age in films.” In some movies where there were roles of this age, the characters were often unlikable! If I were to bring tea in a movie and call my child from time to time, I’d rather do it at my own house and they’ll thank me for it!

This actress emphasized: “If I was offered a good role in the cinema, I would have accepted it. Even today, I have had good experiences in the cinema. I was even nominated for the best actress for the two films I did at the Fajr Film Festival.” At the same time, if the offer is not suitable, I will not accept it. I have been away from feature films for a long time, and during this time I only had short appearances in two films by Mohammad Hadi Karimi, which I accepted because of my interest in him. I played short roles in both “Mahsab Shab Mehtabe” and “Human Comedy” and since I am far from the flow of cinema, I don’t know what conditions prevail in it.

When it comes to the role of the southern woman, remember the name Afshar Panah They fall!

He added: “In Iranian cinema, it is enough to act successfully in one role so that everyone has the same expectations from you and say to themselves that this is sex itself!” I had two successful experiences as a Southern woman and since then all for characters South, first of all the name Afshar Panah It came to their mind! They thought I was from the south. I once told one of the directors, when I, as an Azeri who speaks Turkish, was able to play that southern role in the best way and because of that I was nominated for Simorgh for acting, it means that I have the ability to play other roles as well. Why do you all want the same southern role from me!?

Among my movies, “Because of Haniyeh” by Kyomarth Pourahmad has been very interesting. From time to time, I am also honored for that role-playing, but in all these years, every time a Simorgh asked to sit on my shoulder, someone ignored it and jumped.

Afshar Panah He continued: You wouldn’t believe how many southern woman roles I’ve played during this time and I’ve turned them down simply because I didn’t want to become a stereotype in this role.

This veteran actor said about people’s reactions in the street and which of his roles he is most recognized by people: Different people usually have different reactions and remember a certain role, but my personal feeling is that a range of audiences are still the first They remember my film role in the movie “Khane Dar Intars” directed by Manouchehr Asgari. I have had other series that have remained in people’s memory. These days, one of my series called “The Final Decision” is being broadcast on TV and some people from the city are calling me to say how memorable this role is.

He added: Among my films, “Because of Haniyeh” directed by Kyomarth Pourahmad has been very popular. From time to time, I am also honored for that role, but in all these years, every time a Simorgh asked to sit on my shoulder, someone jumped on it (laughs).

I said OK We are human too, we get sick!

Afshar Panah He said: Basically, people treat young actors differently, but they usually have more respect for veterans. When they see us on the street, they come forward and after greeting us To you They praise and are kind and say that actors like you are no longer in the field and why don’t you work. They are usually grateful for this. It was about 15 or 20 years ago when I went to the doctor’s office for a test, a man came forward and said Mrs Afshar Panah what are you doing here I said OK We are also human and we get sick! But it was strange for him that we also need a doctor. (laughs)

In another part of this conversation, the actor of the movie “Because of Haniyeh” mentioned the late Kiyomarth Pourahmad and said: “I still find it hard to believe that this director passed away.” In the relationship we had for years, I did not expect such a sudden end for him and I don’t know what happened to him that we lost him like this. He always hoped that he would be able to create a new work, and we had several cooperation proposals that did not come to fruition for some reason.

Afshar Panah In the end, he said: We are actors who have been active in this field since the years before the revolution until now, and we have always tried to choose good works to present as much as we can. At the same time, after all, we are human and we can make mistakes. I myself have made mistakes in participating in some projects and I was never satisfied with the results of those works. We have been working hard in this field for many years and these days I am still in contact with the students in the form of an educational institution and I hope we can train good artists as well.
