The 43rd edition of the festival started last week at the Oberra Cultural and Artistic Center in Cairo and ended last evening (Sunday, December 5th).

The highest and most valuable of these awards is called the “Golden Pyramid”, which is awarded to the best film of the festival. The award was added to the Cairo Film Festival in 1991, in the 15th edition. “Silver Pyramid” is a special jury award given to the best director, followed by “Bronze Pyramid” is another important award in the international competition. “Najib Mahfouz” award is also considered for the best screenplay of the festival. The 43rd Cairo International Film Festival screened more than 100 films from 63 countries, 27 of which had their world premieres; Forty-eight films were screened for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa.

* Prizes of the Arab Horizon Cinema Competition

The award for best film by Saad al-Din Wahba went to “Memory Box” directed by Joanna Haji Toma and Khalil George.

The Salah Abu Saif Award (Special Jury Prize) went to the documentary series “Fiasco” directed by Nikola Khoury.

Award The best non-fiction film It was awarded to the documentary “From Cairo” by Hela Glal.

Special tribute to “Arselia Ramirez”, the actress of the Mexican film “Civil” directed by Theodora Mihai.

* Best Arabic Film Award

The award for best Arabic film went to “The Stranger” directed by Amir Fakhreddin. “The Stranger” represents Palestine at the 94th Academy Awards.
