In the documentary “Khak Ab Atash” he discussed the customs and rare geological phenomena of the Baloch people and now in his latest documentary called “May Mat” he tells the story of a hero from this land.

The documentary “Maymat” is the story of the life of a Balochi woman fighter named “Gol Bibi” with the British colonialists during the First World War. This documentary is present in the category of Shahid Avini Award of the 17th Cinemahegurit Festival.

In an interview with Fars reporter, Mohammad Ali Rakhshani said: The subject of the documentary “Maymat” is a woman from the Baloch tribe, this topic was interesting to me, a female hero that perhaps few people have heard of. That’s why I started researching about this character. Summarizing my research made my plan complete, but there were no archives or images from that time available to us. Due to the limited budget and the fact that it was not possible to make a game, we decided to narrate a part of this documentary with drawings for the audience.

He added: “Gol Bibi’s” personality was characterized by his charisma and his aristocracy in matters of traditional medicine, which made him have wide connections and distinguished him from other people. But the biggest impact that “Gol Bibi” has had in the history of our country has been the liberation of Baloch prisoners, who were mainly clan chiefs and elders, from the hands of the British colonialists.

Rakhshani continued: “Gol Bibi’s” work was great because these prisoners were supposed to be executed and their execution at that time was equal to the British rule in that region. But this character was able to thwart the enemy’s plan with tact and planning.

This documentary maker said “maymat” means “our mother” in Balochi times. Baloch believes that the land is our mother and we should sacrifice our lives for the sake of the land. They believe that we have two mothers, one is the mother from whom we are born and the other is our land. That’s why I named this documentary “Maymate”.

In the end, Rokhshani complained about the low estimates of documentary production and stated: The first issue that a documentary maker is involved in is the growth of inflation in the country and the non-increase of the documentary production estimate. Especially for historical documentaries, which usually do not have enough budget to make them. The budget should be according to the inflation of the day, I tried to make a good film with any figure, but I think that from now on I will not be able to make a documentary with these amounts.
