Wiz and Google Maps are finally merging

Finally, Google decided to merge the internal structure of Wiz and Google Maps. These two are the providers of the world’s most popular routing apps.
Google offers various online services, tools and applications, and therefore it is inevitable that they are similar in some features and facilities. This sometimes leads to the merging of those services with each other. For example, Google recently integrated the Google Meet app with Duo or the Hangouts app with Google Chat. Now the world’s search giant is changing the internal structure of the development teams of the two navigation applications Wiz and Google Maps.
It seems that this could be in line with the goal of Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who has said that he wants to increase the productivity of Google by 20% by reducing the budget, restructuring the internal structure of the companies, etc. Google had said shortly before that the pace of hiring would slow down in 2022. The merger of Wiz and Google Maps can also be a confirmation that many new employees will not be hired in this company.
As the tech industry has seen massive layoffs recently, it has raised concerns for employees of Google’s two subsidiaries that the merger will not result in layoffs. Of course, Google has clearly stated that the reorganization of the internal structure of the Waze team has nothing to do with the dismissal of employees. Meanwhile, one of the spokespersons of Google has admitted in a conversation with the Wall Street Journal that the CEO of Waze will step down after these transfers. Google says it will remain deeply committed to the Wiz brand and its users, and there will be no problems.
Should we wait for the destruction of the Waze application?
Google Maps recently inherited some of Waze’s popular features, and it looks like we’ll see more collaborations and feature sharing between the two navigation apps in the coming months. And since in many markets users prefer Waze to Google Maps, it is unlikely that we will see the dissolution of the app and the merging of the two. But on the other hand, history has shown that Google has canceled half of Area 120’s research and development projects, and this means that there is a possibility of fully integrating this routing program with each other. It’s very hard to predict Google’s plans. We will come back soon with more information from these two companies.
