Yerevan: A meeting between Pashinyan and Aliyev is not planned

According to Fars News Agency’s International Group, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesman Vahan Hunanian wrote on his Facebook account today (Saturday) that a meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is not planned.
According to the Tass news agency, he noted: “I would like to emphasize that no meeting is currently planned between the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.” There are proposals for different meetings in different formats that are being negotiated.
According to the Armenian diplomat, the rumors spread by some in this regard are clearly “provocative and false.”
At the same time, he stressed that Pashinyan reiterates that Armenia is ready to resume high-level talks to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with the Republic of Azerbaijan within the framework of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the OSCE Minsk Group.
Earlier, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan claimed that Baku seeks to normalize relations with Armenia in the post-Nagorno-Karabakh period in accordance with international law, and this position remains unchanged.
“It is better to start the process of defining the internationally recognized borders between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan as soon as possible,” Jeyhun Bayramov said. “If Armenia takes a step in this direction, the Republic of Azerbaijan will also take a step in response.”
Meanwhile, according to reports, border tensions between the two countries continue. Recently, an Armenian official announced the violation of the ceasefire and the death of one of its citizens due to the firing of snipers by the Army of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In the fall of 2020, the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh intensified with armed conflict in the disputed area. On November 9 (November 19, 1999), Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on a complete ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to the ceasefire agreement between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, Armenia was to evacuate the occupied territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Aghdam, Kalbajar and Lachin, and it was also agreed to facilitate communication between Nakhchivan and other parts of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
End of message.
