Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Russia was urging Afghan forces to stop militant rhetoric as they set up a council to fight the Taliban, a banned terrorist group in Russia.
“We call on all ethnic and political forces in Afghanistan to put aside militant rhetoric and make every effort to complete the national reconciliation process,” Maria Zakharova was quoted as saying by Sputnik.
According to him, at this stage, it is too early to raise the issue of recognition of the new Afghan officials by Russia, and Moscow continues to monitor developments in Afghanistan and the statements of the political forces of the previous regime to establish a “Supreme Council of National Resistance” for The armed struggle against the Taliban has come to the fore.
Earlier, it was reported that Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid (banned in Russia) announced that the Taliban had decided to conduct a census in Afghanistan.
According to him, the decision was made at a ministerial meeting chaired by Taliban Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund.
Economic issues and the implementation of infrastructure projects were also discussed at the meeting.
