Zakharova: We reserve the right to react to Western action

According to Fars News Agency’s International Group, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday evening that Moscow reserves the right to react to Western actions against the Russian media.

Various Western governments have imposed several sanctions packages on Russian officials and increased military support for Ukraine since the start of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine yesterday.

On the second day of clashes in Ukraine this morning, several explosions were heard in the capital, followed by an alarm. The Ukrainian military says it is confronting Russian forces near the north of Kiev who are planning to enter the city.

Two months ago, the Russian government submitted its package of security guarantees to the United States and NATO, which included Ukraine’s non-membership in NATO and the withdrawal of coalition forces from Eastern Europe.

However, Western officials have rejected Russia’s proposals, and Ukrainian officials have rejected talks on implementing the Minsk agreement, including a ceasefire between Kiev forces and the autonomous regions of eastern Ukraine.

Russia, in response, recognized the independence of the autonomous republics of Luhansk and Donetsk and, at the request of the authorities in those regions, launched a special operation in support of them.
