According to Fars International News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that the country wants to become a member of the European Union within two years.

During his speech, he said: “We want to be in the European Union in two years, and after the victory, we want to be in NATO.”

At the same time, “Katerina Bierly”, the vice president of the European Parliament, rejected the possibility of Ukraine joining the European Union in the near future.

He went on to say: “The fact is that Ukraine was quickly given the candidate status to join the European Union, which was an absolutely extraordinary event.”

Birley added: “Ukraine must fulfill all the conditions of other candidates for EU membership. These conditions include legal, economic and political criteria. But in all these three areas, Ukraine is far from what is needed.”

Also, the spokesperson of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anna Claire Legendre, said last week that Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty is currently not under discussion.

Speaking to the Russian RTVI channel about Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, he also said that the European Union’s decision to give Ukraine a candidate status to join the European Union was very important and sent a message of “serious political support” to Kiev.

However, the French official refused to give an exact time for Kyiv to join the European Union and only said that Brussels has created a road map for countries to join the European Union, which will take time.
