34% of doctors will retire in the next 20 years

According to Fars News Agency’s health correspondent, Hojjatoleslam Shojaei, head of the Parliamentary Principles Commission, sent a letter to Hojjatoleslam Ra’isi, chairman of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, and other members of the council, calling for the approval of the executive staff plan. The comprehensive scientific plan of the country was to increase the admission capacity of the medical field.
The letter states that with the tripling of the country’s elderly population and the retirement of 34% of current doctors in the next 20 years, public dissatisfaction with receiving medical services will intensify if the medical capacity is not increased.
In his letter, Hojjatoleslam Shojaei stated that the result of not compensating for the lack of doctors is the denial of the possibility of fundamental reforms in the health system, such as the implementation of the family doctor plan, the establishment of a referral system, full time doctors and justice in distributing medical staff.
The text of the letter is as follows:
Mr. Hojjat-ul-Islam and Muslims Mr. Dr. Seyed Ibrahim Raisi
Honorable President and Honorable Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution
Distinguished members of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution
Hello
As you are aware; The leadership of the implementation of the comprehensive scientific plan of the country in a revolutionary action approved the increase of the capacity of medical disciplines, and this issue is now on the agenda of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. It also reminds that this commission, based on the complaints and reports received, has put the issue of admission status of medical disciplines in medical universities on its agenda.
On the other hand, due to numerous complaints from members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, especially representatives from deprived areas, about the lack of proper access to a doctor, as well as widespread protests by medical exam candidates about reducing student admission capacity in these fields, a case was filed in the Article 90 Commission. The results of numerous studies and follow-ups of this commission indicate the definite shortage of physicians and dentists in general and specialized levels in the country.
It is worth mentioning that in addition to the experts of the commission, the prestigious think tanks of the country and the honorable Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education also acknowledged the shortage of doctors in the country in the meeting held in this commission.
Pursuant to Article 2 بند 5 of the Supreme Leader’s General Health Policy, health indicators must be upgraded to achieve first place in the Southwest Asia region. According to the expert meetings of the Principle 90 Commission, this will never be achieved if the medical capacity is not increased to the extent determined by the Steering Committee for the implementation of the comprehensive scientific plan of the country.
On the other hand, with the tripling of the country’s elderly population and the retirement of 34% of current doctors in the next 20 years, if the medical capacity is not increased, people’s dissatisfaction with receiving medical services will intensify.
In view of the above, it is appropriate for you, gentlemen, to pay sufficient attention to approving the increase in the capacity of the field of medicine and dentistry in the general and specialized levels. God willing, the outcome of the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution will be such that, in addition to promoting the social capital of the system, they will also make the members of parliament proud in the face of the demands of the people.

Chairman of the Principle Ninety Commission
