According to the social reporter of Fars news agency, Hossein Nazari, deputy director of urban services of Tehran municipality, said on the sidelines of the journalists’ visit to the green belt of Tehran: We always report, but today we brought the journalists to see and then publish the news. Nazari, while thanking the CEO of Green Space Organization of Tehran, said: “Good actions have been taken in the field of green space and if the green space belt had not been created, buildings and facilities would have been created in these places instead of trees.”
Nazari pointed to the air exit corridors from the city of Tehran and said: We must maintain the breathing areas of the city well. Green belt protects Tehran.
Following this visit, Ali Mohammad Mokhtari, CEO of the Tehran Parks and Green Space Organization, said: 46,250 hectares have been created out of the 50,000 hectares of the green belt plan of Tehran.
He stated that about 4,000 hectares of afforestation has been done from Ghochak pass to Telo in the last three years, and said: “Last year, we had 1,500 hectares of afforestation on the agenda, which was exploited in the presence of the president.”
Mokhtari said regarding the irrigation of green spaces: previously, raw water and wells were used, but now sewage is used to irrigate trees. Last year, 19.5 million cubic meters of wastewater were used for irrigation, and this year it will reach 30 million cubic meters.
He pointed to the land subsidence in Tehran and said: We no longer use wells to cause land subsidence.
Mokhtari pointed out that in some places fruitful species are used for tree planting and said: For example, we have planted 2 million walnut trees.
He emphasized: We have various programs this year and a significant area of forests will be transformed into productive plants. Even in the plans, we have the issue of creating a vineyard to become a place for citizens to enjoy.
Mokhtari stated: By the end of 1403, 50 thousand hectares of Tehran’s green belt will be completed.
