A variety of genres are at the forefront of the 40th Fajr / Youth Film Festival

Fars News Agency – Cinema Group: In the last minutes of last night (Sunday, January 26), the names of 22 films submitted to the Simorgh Soda section of the 40th Fajr Film Festival were announced by the secretary of this event.

This happened while the media, critics and filmmakers complained about the late announcement of the names and considered it a sign of the festival’s conservatism, because the same thing happened before and when the names of the judges were announced, and the names were announced at the last hour on Thursday. . However, the festival claims that the announcement of the names was made before the end of the day due to the commitment to the festival calendar and there was no other intention behind it.

But aside from that, the selection of films has also met with mixed reactions; Some have criticized these choices and some have praised them. Critics believe that the films of directors such as Mani Haghighi, Saeed Roustaei, Vahid Jalilvand, Hooman Sidi and Siavash Asadi should not be left out of the competition.

However, they do not pay attention to the fact that first of all, the number of choices is limited and in the meantime, the best ones should be chosen. Secondly, the names of people just because they have a cinematic background are not a strong reason to make a good film. How many great directors have weak films in their repertoire. Thirdly, at present, society needs vitality and hope, and bitter or black films will naturally not have a place in the window of the Fajr Film Festival of the Islamic Revolution.

* Simultaneous presence of veterans and youth in Fajr Film Festival

The fourth point is that by taking a fair look at the list of announced films, one can get the diversity of cinematic genres; From the presence of veterans such as Masoud Kimiaei, Ebrahim Hatamikia (this time as producer) and Seyed Reza Mirkarimi to young people such as Mohammad Hossein Mahdavian, Hossein Darabi (producer of the banned film “Expediency”) and Amir Abbas Rabiee (producer of the banned film “Personal Clothing”).

In terms of genre diversity, films in the fields of sacred defense, socio-political, action and even art and experience (the film “Door” directed by Seyed Hadi Mohaghegh) are present at the festival, which can cover a wide range of tastes and audiences.

Of course, in the meantime, some films, such as “Christ, Son of Mary”, which was made by the Ouj Media Arts Organization, have been left out of the festival, and it has been heard that this absence has non-cinematic reasons.
