Alexander Sokorov turned down the invitation / My film is too serious for the festival!

Renowned Russian filmmaker Alexander Sokorov has announced that he has turned down an invitation from the festival to screen his new film at this year’s festival.

Theater News Base: Famous Russian filmmaker Alexander Sokorov has apparently turned down a “personal” invitation to the Cannes Film Festival to screen his new film, Jirokastra. Sokorov vaguely explained why the invitation was rejected, saying that his new film was too serious to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

Sokorov’s new film seems to be about a fictional event during World War II. The director of the Golden Lion of the Venice Film Festival said about his new film: “This film is a purely fictional fairy tale and it is a completely new work of art for me.”

The director emphasized: “My new film is not like journalism and research, but it is a film with a very complex performance and technology, and probably never in another film, technology has been implemented in this way.”

It is not clear what new technique Sokorov used in his new film, but many are counting the time to hear the interview to see the latest work of the Russian director, especially since the Cannes Film Festival wants the film to be screened at the 75th Min Festival. It has been its course.

Sokurov currently teaches cinema at a Russian university. It has already been rumored that the director may appear in “Cannes” 2022. Last week, another Russian filmmaker, “Tchaikovsky’s Wife,” by Kirill Sbernikov, was selected to compete in the 75th Cannes Film Festival. Russian Sbernikov recently left his country for Germany, saying he had no plans to return to Russia.
