All iPhone 16 models are likely to be equipped with the A18 chip

Apple has used the 3nm A17 Pro chip in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, while the other two models use the older A16 Bionic chip. Now, apparently, Apple wants to use the A18 chip in all iPhone 16 models, although we will probably see an extension for this chip to differentiate between the Pro and standard models.
according to MacRumors ReportApple is working on iOS 18, codenamed “Crystal,” which includes four iPhone numbers that correspond to the iPhone 16 series:
- D47: iPhone 16
- D48: iPhone 16 Plus
- D93: iPhone 16 Pro
- D94: iPhone 16 Pro Max
Contrary to past rumors, apparently Apple will not go for the Ultra model for the next generation of iPhones and we will face the Pro Max model.
A18 chip in the iPhone 16 series
According to the published information, Apple will use the A18 chip in all the next-generation iPhone models, however, this chip will probably have two different versions. iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will be equipped with a chip named “D4y” and iPhone 16 and 16 Pro Max will be equipped with a chip named “D9x”.
Considering that Apple used the Pro extension for the A17 chip for the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro Max, it is likely that the iPhone 16 Pro models will be equipped with the A18 Pro chip. In addition, this chip will be made with TSMC’s 3nm N3E lithography.
On the other hand, maybe the other two models of iPhone 16 have A18 chip, which will probably be made with 3 nm lithography. However, it is expected that a different design will be used in these chips or that we will face a different number of CPU and GPU cores.
Finally, it must be said that we still have a long way to go before the introduction of the next generation of iPhones, so we still have to wait for more reports and rumors about them.
