Ambiguities of eliminating subsidy recipients / low incomes that became tenths! Mehr News Agency Iran and world’s news

According to the Mehr correspondent, on May 7, the president unveiled the government’s new plan to pay cash subsidies in a televised interview focusing on reforming the preferential currency policy and removing it from the five basic commodities. On the same night, the amounts of 300 (for the fourth deciles onwards) and 400,000 Tomans (for the first three deciles) were transferred to the account of the guardians of the 9 deciles of the country, and thus the tenth decile was removed from the list of subsidy recipients.

As announced by the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare, approximately 7.5 million people were excluded from receiving the subsidy and introduced as the remnants of the new subsidy, and the Minister of Labor confidently stated that based on criteria such as car, turnover and Bank profits have removed high-income households from the subsidy list; However, observations show that among the excluded, there are also the weak and middle classes of the society who were previously eligible for subsidies but were removed from the list during this period.

Of course, a few days ago, the president ordered that the first-month subsistence allowance be deposited in the accounts of all those who were eligible for the subsidy until the previous month but have not received the subsistence allowance at this stage and are applying to reconsider the current declassification.

Ambiguities of removing people from the subsidy list

According to Mehr, there are six ambiguities regarding the removal of individuals from the list of receiving subsidies and the re-payment of subsidies to the survivors; First, there is no specific clarification on the amount of the deposit subsidy and the continuation or non-continuation of the deposit.

In fact, it is not yet clear whether the subsidy to be paid to the survivors is 300,000 Tomans or 400,000 Tomans, and it is not clear whether this subsidy will be paid to these people in the second month or not.

The next point is that among those excluded are households where the head of the household is retired and receives a minimum wage, but the child of the family has a higher income or who has a car and a bank deposit.

The next issue also concerns people who, although supported by support organizations such as the Welfare Organization and the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee, have been removed from the list of subsidy recipients for reasons such as owning a car.

Therefore, if the information of the Iranian welfare base was more accurate, these people should have been included in the list of subsidy recipients by default, not that these people should be considered as part of the 3 low-income deciles of the society and part of the tenth decile in the Iranian welfare base!

The next point is about standardizing people’s foreign travel; It seems that in a household, if a person has also traveled abroad, even if he / she has gone to work, he / she is considered in the tenth decile and is deprived of receiving subsidies. However, a more accurate verification of this criterion should have been done, because just going on a foreign trip can not indicate that a person is one of the richest people in society.

The next issue is that some of the families included in the list of excluded are those whose children did not separate their subsidy account after marriage and the family has been removed from the list of receiving subsidies due to the financial situation of their married child.

There have also been a number of contacts with Mehr News Agency by some female-headed households who have stated that they previously received the subsidy but have been removed from the list under the new subsidy, while these individuals are often in the top one to nine.

Mehr News Agency has been following the ambiguities in this report in several contacts with the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare over the past few days, but unfortunately no one from the ministry was willing to respond.
