Attractive choices in karate; Olympic gold also goes on the tatami

According to IRNA; The World Karate Championships in 2021 will be hosted by Dubai in the UAE from November 16 to 15.

The Iranian team will participate in this important event in both men’s and women’s divisions in order to continue its good performance in recent years.

Accordingly, a selection of 75 kg was previously held and “Ali Asghar Asyabri” obtained a permit to participate in the world championship to replace “Bahman Asgari”, the world champion who is banned due to doping.

But in other weights, a selection will be held and even “Sajjad Ganjzadeh”, the golden karateka of Iran, will go on the tatami in the Olympics. Ganjzadeh, who is still injured in the hand, has accepted to participate in the election with his professional behavior.

The men’s team qualifiers were postponed for several days due to the illness of “Amir Mehdizadeh” and “Keyvan Baban” in Corona and will be held on the 8th of November. Now, Mehdizadeh and Baban have passed the quarantine period and have recovered and have no problem participating in the election.

The elections will be held on the 8th of October in Kabkanian Hall in two shifts, in the morning and in the evening, and prominent Iranian karate figures will be present.

In the 60 kg weight category, “Majid Hassannia”, who has a bag of Asian medals in his record, will compete against Ali Meskin and Sina Jalilian.

In the weight category of 67 kg, Amir Mehdizadeh, the world and Asian champion who could not travel to the Tokyo Olympics, has to go on the tatami with Morteza Nemati, Amir Mirzaei and Seyed Ali Karimi to reach the world championships.

In the weight category of minus 84 kg, Zabihullah Pourshib, the captain of the Iranian national team, who lost his participation in the Olympics due to bad luck and the strange rules of the World Federation, has to face Keyvan Baban and Mehdi Khodabakhshi. Pourshib recently won the Grandweather title for this world weight in 2020 and 2021.

In the extra 84 kg weight, Sajjad Ganjzadeh, the Olympic gold medalist and the proud karate man of Iran, must compete with our country’s capable karateka Saleh Abazari to reach the UAE world.

With these descriptions, we should expect interesting struggles whose technical level is not less than the world competitions.
