Biden: Russia’s use of chemical weapons in Ukraine is a real threat

“I think this is a real threat,” the president told reporters on Wednesday, local time, about concerns about Russia’s possible use of chemical weapons in Ukraine.

Biden will travel to Brussels on Wednesday to attend a NATO summit, meet with G7 leaders and join a scheduled European Council summit. He will then travel to Poland.

A senior US defense official said Washington had not yet seen any clear signs of an imminent chemical or biological attack on Russia in Ukraine, but was scrutinizing the information.

The US president has previously claimed that Russia is seeking to use chemical weapons in Ukraine.

The unnamed US official, referring to Biden’s assessment, added: “At the moment there are no signs of an imminent attack in this area.

Earlier, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, in an interview with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev on Ukraine, warned of the consequences of any possible use of chemical or biological weapons by Ukraine.

Sullivan also warned Patrushev about the consequences of any possible Russian use of chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine.

According to IRNA, Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 21 (March 2) recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in the Donbas region, criticizing the West’s indifference to Moscow’s security concerns.

Three days later, he announced the launch of a “special military operation” against Ukraine last Thursday (March 26th), turning tense Moscow-Kiev relations into a military confrontation. Conflicts in Ukraine and reactions to Russia’s actions continue.

Western countries, led by the United States, had imposed sanctions on Moscow even before Russia’s military action against Ukraine.
