Capacities of using Shad system in Afghanistan

According to the correspondent of the Afghanistan site of Fars news agency, with the presence of schools in Iran and the emptying of a significant part of the capacity of the Shaad system, the opportunity to use virtual education can be provided for Persian speakers in the region, including students from neighboring countries such as Afghanistan. Although this is a good thing in the short term, it faces challenges such as the impossibility of optimal access, which needs to be resolved in the long term.
At the beginning of the Taliban regaining power in Afghanistan, all schools were closed in this country. Although after some time, these centers returned to their former state, but this time, girls above the sixth grade were denied from returning to the classrooms due to reasons such as the inappropriateness of the study environment or the need to use special clothes.
Compared to neighboring countries, Afghanistan is a young country and has a large number of students. According to global statistics, this country has more than 15 million children of general education age, which account for about 40% of the country’s population. Of these, nearly 8 million are girls. With these interpretations, the imposed ban covers a significant part of the society of this country.
At the same time, in Iran, the infrastructure of the Shad system was offered to the student community in a short period of time after the corona virus epidemic due to the efforts of the internal forces, and it was able to play a significant role in the education of the children of this country. According to the statistics announced by the Ministry of Education, this system has about 11 million daily active users, 13 million weekly active users, and more than 18 million monthly active users. First, the CEO of Iran Mobile Communications Company, while pointing to the remarkable success of this system, stated that in 2019, the Shad platform was able to overtake the WhatsApp platform in terms of traffic, and the traffic rate of this large educational platform is now 1.5 petabytes per day.[i] has arrived. With the introduction of face-to-face schools in Iran, a significant part of this capacity remains empty, which can be used for the benefit of Afghan girls, in addition to being used in situations such as the lack of conditions for holding virtual classes or holding classes to fix problems.
Surveys in Afghanistan show that, on average, urban families have at least two smartphones that have access to the Internet necessary to use educational content. Since 20% of Afghanistan’s population is urban, it can be estimated that virtual education conditions will be provided for at least one million Afghan girls in the short term by using the infrastructure of the Shaad system.
